I thought Greenwood was excellent against spurs. He was making his first premier league start of the season and his first since that dreaded Cardiff game last season.

Up against Alderweiald and Sanchez I thought he did well. He had some lovely touches to link play, was unlucky not to score and his movement was causing problems and opening space for lingard and others. He also pressed very well and caused them a few issues when they had the ball. It was a very mature performance from one so young, and I hope he starters against city.

Although i agree with most of the things there, i will try not to get carried away. His instincts in the box are really good, hope in 2 years time we'll see 15 goal a season striker in him.

A loan move for him would be wise next season?

Becks58,

I loan move will depend on how well we recruit next summer.
Also we need to loan to the right club, where he will develop. Perhaps a loan move to Germany would be good?

I think if ole is still here mason will be getting plenty of chances and likely won’t be loaned. He’s already got 4 goals for the first team this season, I expect him featuring more by the end of the season. Top talent.

Greenwood has been excellent when called on. I don't think he needs a loan. For me loans are for players who need to adjust to senior level football and need game time to do so, or in the rare cases where the position they play in has an abundance of options in the first team.

Neither applies to Greenwood. I think he will slowly be integrated this season, playing maybe 10 games from the start and maybe another 15 appearances off the bench. Then next season he will be ready to challenge for a first team spot for the whole season.

At the moment we have Rashford, Martial and James who will challenge him for a starting spot as one of the front three. We need 6 forwards to challenge for those positions. So even if we sign another striker and wide player that would only give us 5 in total. So there would still be a place for Greenwood.

I think it will be more important for one of Levitt or Garner to go on loan next season as I expect we will sign at least a couple of midfielders.

Agree with you Shappy, a loan move will stall his development. Give him his chance and he won't let us down. Team played very well for most if the game. An uplifting game, let's hope we can turn up against City as they're not as formidable as they were last season.

Agree with Shappy here Greenwood doesn't need a loan, his natural instict to find the net is better than Martial and Rashford IMO, he had a very good game against spurs.

Bolger, he is only 18, and only recently turned 18. Yet, he has the ability to play in the EPL. A loan to the Championship wouldn't be the step up he needs.

Many top players have played regularly at 18. Rashford and Shaw in our own squad are examples of players who played forst team football at 17. Rooney, Ronaldo, Messi etc have all played regularly at at 18 in the first teams of top clubs.

He will need plenty of support, and have good people around him to keep him grounded. While the fans will have to be patient and allow him to have bad games without getting on his back.

He needs to start getting games in the first team, be that cup games and 10-15 minutes at the end of games. If he proves himself the best option then he should play.

Bolger, I agree we shouldn't put the weight of the club on his shoulders. But football is a team game, him being one of 5 or 6 players we rotate regularly in our front three won't be putting too much on him. I'm not suggesting not signing another striker and wide player. I think we should sign a couple more forwards.

If we have options of say Rashford, James, Martial, Dembele, Bergwijn and Greenwood as options for three places up front he would be on the bench most weeks but still a part of the squad and there wouldn't up undue pressure on him to perform, while some good performances could get him starting some games. Then he would be there on merit.
