Finishing the season won't happen if the latest scientific report is anything to go by. There is no way any medical personnel can be spared at grounds so the FA can finish the season their expertise is needed elsewhere also i heard that Sky and BT will not be looking into recouping any money owed due to not completing all fixtures . #staysafe😷😷.

{Ed002's Note - Regardless of what the Premier League say this afternoon (they could just go through the motions and say "intent is to finish" (which it is of course), "need to assess the logistics" (the June 30 issue - which is easily fixed), "can't put a start on when training could start and matches begin", "still looking at options to play games behind closed doors" etc., I very much suspect the season is now done. The RFEF in Spain have announced the major part of their solution (La Liga has one major issue with it (to do with games restarting and stopping again) but have not really addressed the promotion/relegation issue (they have what they think is the answer but have yet to consult I understand - which oddly enough has never stopped them in the past). There has been a significant backlash in Germany to the proposals to start as soon as they can behind closed doors. The position in Italy is clear, the major clubs want a cut off. This afternoon it is likely that nine or ten PL sides will push a motion and ask for a vote to end the season now (they are not going to propose how that happens as they see that as a specific issue).

Thanks for the info Ed, very informative.
Impossible to answer probably How but how long can will the premier league wait before voting on ending the season as I imagine how it ends may be a lengthy process in itself. Also, will they let fans know the decision has been made to end the season before they know the details on how to end it?
Thanks Ed.

{Ed002's Note - It is difficult to say but with 9 or 10 clubs looking to end the season now it will not be too long down the road - although they are pushing for a vote now. It would be a reasoned argument to say when the "lockdown" is considered again in 3 weeks that might be a backstop.}

Speaking purely from someone who works closely with the Government. I would astonished if the season were to be scrapped. There are far bigger issues at play in the UK. Its not a football or even a commercially driven decision.

{Ed002's Note - I don't know what you mean by "scrapped"; nor why you mention the Government or "bigger issues", or you last sentence which makes no sense at all. I am assuming you don't understand any of this.}

CheshireRed is right. The Aliens out in Sector 7 aren't happy that season has stopped. After the unmitigated disaster that was the Game of thrones finale, we can't upset them again. As is common knowledge in the government, all Aliens support Liverpool.

I would have thought with the extension of the government furlough scheme until the end of June I doubt the lockdown will be lifted much before the end of June.

We are all football fans and we would all like to see the return of the game. But there are far bigger issues at play here. I have serious doubts that the league will be finished sadly. We can't risk lives for the sake of a game.

My father used to follow the Busby Babes and told me all about them including when United almost decided to continue as a club after the crash. I also read that Liverpool almost did the same after Hillsborough.

These are worrying times and to think anybody can think of wanting to put more people at risk of this terrible virus is also extremely worrying because that's what it means to arrange these outstanding fixtures.

Liverpool have romped the league this season but if Klopp came out and said "Scrap this season . People need to be safe. We will win it next time" not only would it help the FA in drawing a line under everything but worldwide people will have total respect for his decision. 😷😷.

I think it could be a long time before fans are going to games to watch a football match.

Ed if the season was suspended now and ended which is probably the right decision with how life is atm. How would you expect europe and relegation be handled? I know a while back they said same teams in europe as this season but i'm sure teams won't be pleased with that scenario.

{Ed002's Note - There is no suggestion to simply void the season on the table. And I think it unlikely that anyone will look to go down that route.

Spain (RFEF) have decided that they will end the season, if the games cannot all be completed (whether they restart or not), by drawing a line across now, not awarding the title, and settling European places based on current positions (with the exception of the Copa del Rey place which if played will go to the winners else to Athletic Bilbao if it can't). The critical point is that if the season restarts but cannot be completed, the results revert to the standings at the start of the suspension - and the results of the games played after the restart would be voided - this is controversial as far as La Liga are concerned and they have a counter proposal that says if the games restart and then stop, those positions when it stops for a second time should stand. But the decision belongs to RFEF and typically they would overrule La Liga. Whilst they want to complete the league, they too are going to draw a June 30 line across if the games cannot start on May 28 and complete by then – although they have proposed a back stop of the end of July (but nobody wants to use it and clubs don’t wish to exercise it). They have not addressed promotion and relegation completely at this time but seem open to the two up/none down principle as others are considering.

The "Bundesliga" plan if they cannot complete the season: draw a line across; no champions; European places on current standings; top two promoted down through the leagues; no relegation this season but addition one relagated next two seasons. The approach has a lot of support.

Scotland have used the threat based model - vote for what we say and we will give you money to help you stay in business.

Belgium has gone roughly down the "Bundesliga" approach but have assigned Champions (there was a lead that could not be caught but play offs were wiped out - so Club Brugge are champions and all of the other sides agreed. This was driven by the simple desire that it could not all be completed by June 30 based on advice.

The PL is aware of all of this and if needs be will need to be bold and come up with a plan. My expectation is it will follow the "Bundesliga" approach.}

I don't think there's many football fans who want the football to return while putting peoples health at risk. I think it's a barometer for people to judge when we might come out the other side of this. If football is gearing up to come back then we can see the finish line and it gives people hope. Right now the finish line keeps getting moved further and further back.

If the premier league takes the same approach as the Bundesliga then we should all take the time to visit the Liverpool pages and thank them for their participation in the league this year.

I think we need to be a little more gracious than that.

While part of me would find it funny that Liverpool were denied the title after a 30 year wait, we have to remember that they would have been denied that by a national tragedy that has already takes thousands of lives.

There is no humour here. And if we are honest Liverpool deserve the title. Let's not lose our humanity.

{Ed004's Note - I agree Shappy. I'll not be going out of my way to get reactions from Liverpool fans. I will probably joke about it with them when the pubs finally open but not at this moment in time when its a fresh wound}

Fair play shappy, I'm fully expecting, if we don't win the title, a barrage of jokes and memes of how we have been denied again and we are never going to win etc. But all the majority care about right now is that we get through this with as many as possible with their health in place. If we get that sorted the rest will fall into place.

Ed004, with friends or face to face in a few months time I will probably joke and banter about it.

I'm not sure a web page is the place to do that. We don't know who is reading and who they may have lost due to this tragedy. My heart goes out to all those people suffering and now is not the time to gloat callously at disappointed Liverpool fans.

{Ed004's Note - Agreed Shappy}

Oh jeez. Shappy, Ed004. Despite the virus life does go on and every Mancunian I know, red and blue, is delighted that Liverpool will not be winning the league again.

Personally I'm thrilled and I refuse to see everything through a corona shaped prism.

Liverpool aren't going to win the league again. Woohoo!

{Ed004's Note - Don't get me wrong. I'll be delighted if they do not get the title (still think they will) and will enjoy it immensely when out with Liverpool friends in real life. I just wouldn't take enjoyment out of winding up the Liverpool fans immediately on the other sites}
