Out of Sanchez and Dembele who do you think has made a worse signing.

That's a tough one.

On one hand Dembele has cost Barcelona more money than Sanchez has.

Yet when fit Dembele hasn't been a bad player. He just hasn't been 140m good. Whereas, Sanchez not even for 5 minutes in his United career has looked even remotely decent let alone good.

Finally Barcelona will most likely be able to recover some of the money they have spent on Dembele. No where near what they paid. But something. Whereas, United will likely have to either pay a proportion of Sanchez's wages while he is on loan, or pay off his contact or a proportion of it to get him off the books.

For that reason alone I think Sanchez was a worse signing. While minimal impact on the pitch and a destabilising influence off it. Sanchez needs to go down as our worst ever signing.

As shappy says its a tough question but with sanchez you have to consider the oppurtunity cost of signing him.

At the time in jan 2018 which people actually tend to forget, we were actually playing quite well under mourinho in the 2017/ 18 season, comfortably got through in our champions league group and were comfortably second to what everyone considers a top quality man city side.

Martial and Rashford were playing very well on the left wing when given their turn and lukaku was having a good season up top. We had a clear problem at no 10 as mkhitaryan was disappearing and we did not have a proper right wing player (which we ironically still don't have two years later)

We signed sanchez to play on the left wing which made our team even more lop sided and clearly stalled the development of rashford and martial and that season came to a depressing end and fed into the following season when jose got sacked.

With dembele, although he cost a lot, that was partly due to the enormous money that Barcelona received for neymar and Barcelona still had messi and suarez which has allowed them to win la liga and remain competitive in europe.

Sanchez for me. Appreciate the money argument may centre on Dembele’s overinflated price tag. He’s younger though and has at least some re-sale value / may well come good elsewhere. Sanchez has just looked woeful though. Seems 5 years older in 1 season at United. And on £400k a week or whatever ridiculous wages he’s on he is incredibly difficult to move on. Glad to see Woodward looks to finally be moving away from ‘elder Galactico’ syndrome. Spending £30m on a 16yo midfielder who could be anything and £80m on a 20yo right winger we’ve been crying out for look long term investments that will hopefully come good. Missing out in Haaland for £20m looks like it will really come back to bite us. Interested to hear the inside track on how close we came to sign him or whether he was always Dortmund bound.

No more Sanchez type deals though please Woodward. And yes Gareth Bale that includes you!

{Ed002's Note - Try the search engine - there was no £20M deal for Haaland.}

Halesini, Haaland was only available to German club's for a few in the region of 20m. To all other clubs, ourselves included the fee quoted was north of 60m. Which in hindsight of seeing what he is doing at Dortmund might seem worthwhile, at the time considering he had only ever played in a much poorer league was a huge amount of money to gamble on him.

{Ed002's Note - It wasn't like that either.}

It's Moussa Dembele of Lyon we need.
