Liverpool and City are two-horse race favourites for the league next year at odd between 5/ 6 and 7/ 4. Most bookies thinking City just edge it.

Purely from a value perspective United and Chelsea whom you can get 20/ 1 and 16/ 1 respectively look great bets each way.

Liverpool have completely annihilated a poor league but playing as champions is harder. Seemingly they've little money to strengthen too and injuries were kind to them this season.

City look a few players short now. In FFP world can they still buy the Koulibaly needed for their defence? Will Champs League ban if upheld seriously limit their recruitment?

Chelsea by contrast are doubling down again on new players and they'll be title contenders following year if not next.

As for us we know one Bruno doesn't make up for deficiencies we've all seen for a long time but at last there is an air of positivity around OT.

Clearly who we sign and linked to that whether we get Champions League or not are massive variables. But ones I'll take a punt on at 20/ 1.

Fascinating season next year. All clubs have to up their game to match Liverpool but I just don't see another 100pts or thereabouts season for them or for City.

{Ed047's Note - “A poor league“, you’re not bitter then! 🤦‍♂️🤣

So for clarity on this, if you put £10 on United to win the league next year at odds of 20/ 1 you lose £10

It isn’t a poor league, if it was why are we behind Leicester and Chelsea? What does it make us in fifth fighting with Wolves? City and Liverpool are a long way ahead of us, sad and tough as it is to say that

Stop trying to demean the league because of who won it, that makes us no better than those who said that of our last win 7 years ago.

liverpool have been the best team on the planet for 2 seasons, they were unlucky last season to not win it, i tipped them to retain the UCL but for a freak game against athletico.

its far from a weak league, it just shows every other club what can happen with PATIENCE, and a board room that knows how to operate a football club.

next season will be the same city and liverpool fighting it out

then the rest for 3rd and 4th.

I'm not saying it's a weak league, but certain teams have been well off the mark this season. Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs have all changed managers and have been off the pace required to challenge at the top.

While we haven't been great, having suffered key injuries and starting another new rebuild.

Leicester, Wolves and Sheffield United have stepped up and been a breath of fresh air, but in truth none were ever going to challenge for the title.

The only team Liverpool had to beat to win the league was City, who are looking a little tired, have suffered terrible injuries in defence and have an off the field issue which could see them serve a two year European ban.

Liverpool are peaking while no one else is close enough to truly challenge them. Either at the start of a rebuild or stuck in in limbo.

I'm taking nothing away from a fantastic Liverpool team, but no one was in a strong position to challenge them for the title this season.

I do not think it is a poor league even though Liverpool are champions and have only dropped 7 points drawing 2 and losing 1, that sort of makes it a one horse league but only for this season.

Next season everyone will go again and maybe Liverpool will retain it but I do not think the margin will be anywhere near to what it was this season.

My definition of a poor league is one that is dominated by 1 or two teams for decades, not a few years. For me the premier league is the most competitive, certainly in Europe.

There are only two teams who’ve averaged at least 2 points per game: Liverpool and City. So if not judging it as a poor or weak league by what measures do you think it’s provably strong or competitive?

We’ve had our share of winning the premier league. Won it by 18pts, won it by just one and lost it on by goal difference on the last kick of the game. Two of those are clear examples of a very competitive league. This one wasn’t.

Doesn’t take away from Liverpool’s achievement.

I just don’t see them staying at the top and creating a dynasty like Fergie did. Several times.

If there was one team that should’ve been equipped to do that it’s City and they’ve clearly fallen short.

As for clarity RedMan it helps if you read the original post where I quote United at 20/ 1 and Chelsea at 16/ 1 both representing excellent value at those odds as each way bets.

What does it say about us fighting it out for 5th? That we are not good enough. Obviously.

Do you not consider a league fought out between 3 or 4 teams and only decided in the last game or two would constitute a much more stronger and competitive league?

Was it ever a poor league when we won it? We've won leagues with 10-15 points fewer than Liverpool currently have was that league better or were we a poorer side who happened to be champions? There's an enormous amount of variables.

Liverpool and City have been so far ahead of everyone for the past couple of seasons and the consistency Liverpool showed this season was incredible. They fully deserved to win the league.

You could say clubs aren't close enough to challenge or are starting rebuilds which is partly true but the reason ourselves, Arsenal, Spurs etc are rebuilding and seem a long way off is mismanagement. Liverpool seem to be a club where over the past few seasons everyone was set up to try to help them win on the pitch. City much the same. It isn't a surprise that they have been the two best sides in the country for the last 3 years.

Obviously I'd have preferred Liverpool not to win the league but I actually think it's a little better when rivals are also good sides. It makes winning the titles that little better and leagues and cups more interesting throughout.

Course it's a poor league we can make top 4 with our lowest points total since the prem began because not only have we not been good the teams around are just as bad.

I had the misfortune to watch the great liverpool sides of the 70s and 80s and suffered their domination for all my school going years and this Liverpool side are a match for them in every way imo.
They were not lucky they were brilliant all season.
They are the team to beat next season and beaten they will be.

The league was over months ago. We've still got trophies to win. Make no mistake Liverpool fans don't want us near the FA cup or Europa cup. We've 13 premier leagues. Liverpool should be embarrassed having to celebrate the league after 30 years.
