I don’t hold Souness in the highest regard when it comes to punditry, but I agree with his assessment of Grealish. I have seen him play a few times but never thought that he would suit the quick forward play we are trying to adopt. Ed has said he adds something different, but I am not confident it is what we need. Not for £80m.

We'd still have to pay 50 million for him, he's villas captain they won't sell him on for less than that. Like a few have said on here he'd be a decent squad player, but you don't pay 50 million for a squad player. Not when van der beek is apparently available for a simular figure, I'd take van der beek over grealish every time. He's a Dutch international who has played in the latter stages of a champions league campaign and won titles with ajax. Yeah grealish would be an upgrade on lingard and pereira but there are a lot of players who would improve us more.

GDS, people said we wouldn't be paying 80m for Maguire.

Or that we wouldn't pay Sporting what they wanted for Bruno.

But we did, the best we managed with Sporting was to delay a few payments until Bruno hit certain "easily obtainable" targets.

We have shown we have little negotiating skills.

I have my doubts about the 80m figure being reported in the press as accurate for what Villa are demanding. But whatever Villa demand I expect we will end up paying.

if we did go ahead and buy him where will he play? If we keep the front 3 in a 4 3 3 formation I don't rate him above Greenwood and he is not getting into the midfield Yes we need depth but with his ego would he settle for lots of time on the bench over what he has now?

I’d be extremely surprised if we paid £80m for a player who would be in the championship next season if they go down, just not going to happen.
