I am glad quite a few posters below are making sense as this is football and Southampton came with a plan an executed it well!

It was only a few months ago when toxics were rampant on this site and it was hard to read, we draw a game and now some clairvoyants are saying I told you so! We shoukd have played a different team etc etc. If we had won tonight then where would they have put their crystal balls! I can think of a few places!

This is a team in transition after 7 years in a vacuum, and now, after the infancy of progress in the last few months we have the audacity to draw a game and it is all for nothing!

Get real guys and girls! This is not 2009! Ole and the team will make mistakes unlike some of you of course!

we are in a better place!

GGMU!

I agree, and despite the creditable way Southampton played, their first goal was as a direct result of a dreadful mistake and the second was at the buzzer when we down to 10 men. Meanwhile their goalkeeper made two excellent saves.

The players did look tired but despite that on a better day we win that one 3-1 despite Southampton's brave performance. Sadly, our luck ran out.

The first goal is what we'll get with PP in a two.

You look at the last fee games and we have banged goals in for fun. PP has been an integral part of that. But he will dribble and lose the ball occasionally.

Dodge's biggest weakness is commanding his 6 yard box from crosses, never mind the box. He makes a good save for the cameras, but then we concede soft goal from a corner where another keeper might deal with (eg put something on) the flicked on cross.

And the players are still playing in empty stadiums.

Chalk it up as one of those and work hard in the week to finish the season strong. We are in such a better place, keep the faith, good times are coming.

My advice would be, win the palace game, rest vs Chelsea win or lose in the semis I don't really care and be fresh for the PL.

Credit to Southampton for not giving up till the end. We probably should have finished off the game in the first half when we scored 2 goals in quick succession and Southampton seemed to have lost their early momentum.

Both Martial and Rashford had great opportunities to score more but their GK made a fantastic save and the other one was blocked at the last moment.

Defensively we paid for our mistakes. Unfortunately towards the end Brandon Williams had to be withdrawn due to injury and it was poor defending for the second goal - Maguire and Bissaka trying to block one player and Lindelof's positioning was awful as he was behind the striker and had no chance to clear the ball. If Brandon was on the pitch we probably would not have conceded at the end.

The only thing I would fault Ole for is the final substitution - if he was content with sitting back on the lead during the final minutes, why not take one of the forwards and get a CB in along with the substitutions of Fernandes and Shaw? .

Move on to the next game and let's see what's in store.

The only thing you would fault Ole for is the subs?

As per my point above, Southampton tactics were obvious from before the game, surely we knew they were going to press, try to turn over possession high particularly on Pogba? Why then channel balls from going across the back line into Pogba? Naive at best but sorry if that is critical of the management. It looked like we expected them to sit deep afraid of us, so we would try to draw them out. After we looked hopeless at it for 25 mins they finally told them and stopped passing into central midfield, stopped receiving it with their backs to the opposition. Why were we so tactically naive?

The substitutions were ok, not inspiring. I would have taken Bruno off earlier for McTominay and pushed Pogba forward or played with a 3. Maybe Ole made the last 2 subs 10 mins too late but the subs were not a heavy area of criticism last night, his starting tactics were though.

Must tell Gary Neville as well then, because after we kept passing across the back line trying to go through the middle, he said we needed to stop it and get it wide and out. If you think passing it centrally to Pogba 30 yards from goal knowing he can easily get dispossessed is a good tactic you are as naive as our manager. You aren’t Ole are you?
