Makes you laugh ole was tactically wrong and all the other tosh I've seen after a draw against a very good Southampton team.

We have just played the 5th game in a row with the same starting 11.

Were only 1 point off 3rd, 4th by goal difference and its still in our own hands,

Some people need to get a grip. You can't win every game and a point was fair.

Southampton were really good tonight the way they pressed was some of the best and most organised I think I have seen and they deserve credit for that.

Oles in game management may well be criticised as I don't think some of his decisions were great even sir alex was never backed blindly and no one should be above being criticised. Yet despite today its still in our hands.

What is really pleasing me is a draw feels like a defeat at the moment and you get the sense the fans are starting to believe again and are keeping expectations high which should always be a must at utd and for too long mediocrity was being accepted. Now it's up to the club to back the manager properly and fill in the gap between the bench and first team so we can continue looking forward.

What surprises me is that no one at the club saw what Southampton would want to do. They press like that and wanted us to give the ball to Pogba centrally with his back to them. It was an obvious tactic, so why when pressed did we fall into it, it should have been seen before the game. It took 25 minutes, one goal, nearly others and a drinks break to change what was obvious from before the start. That is the naivety of where we are. I also agree to Shappy’s point about freshening the team up, they had energy last night and we lacked fizz. The other elephant in the room beyond tactical naivety was DDG again allowing a cross into the and across the six yard area.

Oh, and those who said Southampton couldn’t be predicted, this is my post from the day before. If I can see it why can’t the management who are paid to?

A fascinating few games ahead and there is an opportunity to get top four, possibly third. Tomorrow Southampton, who should be more of a challenge than the recent ones. We certainly can’t afford the slow sloppy start that we had at Villa until the drinks break. I sense they will press in certain areas, try to turn the ball over, likely Pogba will be targeted. Don’t know why but I get a feeling of a draw tomorrow, when we really must win our games now.

Our first XI is pretty good but the squad depth is quite poor.

If we had someone like Sancho or Greenwood from bench, would have put pressure back on them.

Looked clear that many players ran out of juice in second half. Bruno had a mare. But he is the type of player who steps up and delivers.

I'm wondering who will play Left back on Thursday.

TRD

I suspect Dalot if both Shaw and Williams unfit.

ole knows his best 11, you don't change something that isn't broken,

a few players didn't play great but it happens,

2 wins from our next 2 games and i think that should be enough to secure a top 4 spot.

TRD, that is exactly the problem. We have a team but not a squad. So if someone gets tired it we want to change things a little bit, we don't have the players for it.

The likes of say Sancho would be perfect. I saw a post on here earlier concerned that signing Sancho could impact Greenwood, but I think we need 4 top quality players for the front 3 positions and 3 top quality players for the 2 more attacking midfield positions. Which means we need one more top quality attacker and one more top quality non-defensive midfielder.

The DM position is broadly covered by matic and mctom, plus Fred can play there too.

I'm not too concerned by our defence although you could argue there's plenty of room for improvement there also, but if the front 6 are in good form then we don't rely so heavily on defence anyway.

It is a real shame we could not hold out last night as i feel that the psychological impact would have been huge of us moving into 3rd. However I do feel we are ahead of where we expected us to be (we have had a better run and others have slipped up) .
In essence it is now a 3 match season and we are still the form team of the 3.
Hopefully the injuries are minor and we get the players back and it might be time to consider a few changes to the starting team to just add some fresh legs in (Fred/ McTomminy) for the Palace game.
It is squeaky bum time for all 3 teams but I think we can keep the faith and look forward.

I rally think we need a confident central defender to improve the defence. Relying on all hands to the pumps when the other team attacks is not sustainable. Mcguire gets found out for pace and the full backs get caught out of position too often. You can see that this is the area where confidence is lacking.

I think the result and the injury to Shaw can in the most part be put down to a lack of rotation. While Southampton played very well, clearly had a game plan and executed it to perfection, if we had an extra 10% fitness/ freshness then we wouldn't have been down to 10 men and we wouldn't have had such a hard game of it.

Against Villa we could have rested Pogba, Shaw and Rashford. Played Fred, Williams and Mata. Villa were never going to press us and we were always going to have a lot of the ball.

Then against Southampton last night we could have rested AWB, Matic, Bruno and Greenwood. The game was always likely to be more open and high energy. We could have played Williams, McTominay, Fred and James. Giving us an extra body deeper in midfield and the possibility of breaking in begin them more effectively.

In both games the rested players would have been on the bench and more than capable of coming on for 20 minutes if needed.

At the very least we would have 4 points from those two games, maybe 6. But at the same time Shaw, AWB, Matic, Pogba, Bruno, Rashford and Greenwood would all have had a rest.

We are unbeaten in 18 games, Shaw has played all of them. Twisting an ankle happens either because someone clobbers you or you are physically and mentally tired.

That said, we were always going to drop points somewhere. It's not the end of the world, and we still have top 4 in our hands.
