What strikes me most about the foreign clubs is that they take players that were supposedly not good enough elsewhere and educate them into there footballing system.

2 years later clubs then want to buy these players for ridiculous money.

This is why I wish that man utd would follow suit and stop wasting money on talent and just produce there own.

What about Rashford, Greenwood, Tuanzebe, Dean Henderson, Williams, McTominay.
Our club do produce some good ones.

We produce more than another club in England. Big V.

{Ed047's Note - genuine question, what young players have you sold for big money or that have moved and clubs now want to pay big money for?

Like Sancho and Gnabry.

We had a large period where the academy was neglected and produced only average players to fill the squad - fletcher and Johnny Evans were the pick of the list. Then we had the pogba situation. Now I think there are a few decent kids coming through who we can keep because we pay obscene salaries and are not playing at the top level where we may need to upgrade on them.

Didn’t Chelsea pay £35m for Danny Drinkwater?

A lot of the time if they are good enough we keep them, we had a spell where we weren’t bringing many through and seemed to have messed up the youth system but it seems to have improved again now.

Ed002 has already said PSG will look to Rashford next year. Plenty of clubs wanted to sign Pogba for big money when we signed him. There's 2 perfect examples. The league has always been littered with decent players we produced who weren't cut out for us but were good enough to play at mid-table level - that is impressive and should be celebrated.

Ed047, the difference is we didn’t let our Sancho or Gnabry go.

Rashford and Greenwood are still here and look like they will be a major part of uniteds attack for the foreseeable future.

How much are they worth now? Just because they haven’t been sold does not mean they’re not worth a lot of money.

{Ed047's Note - that’s not the point of the answer though was it 🤷‍♂️

Ed047 there are some examples but my point was that we do produce players for our 1st team and always have done. There are some that have gone on to make hundreds of appearances. Loads who could have fetched record fees if we had sold them. Even the lesser likes like Phil Neville fletch butt brown o shea welbeck and now mctom all have made massive contributions for club amd countries and have more medals than most and won the lot.
From today's batch greenwood and rash would command outragous fees. But fortunately over the years we have not been a selling club.
There are over 60 united academy graduates making decent livings throughout the league's.
When Brady was at arsenal your academy also flourished big v OP said we should produce our own and we always have right up to today.

{Ed047's Note - he was particularly talking about players that had gone on to be worth big money or that big clubs offered big money for.

Yes you’ve produced some quality but my thought was that he was talking about the Sancho and Gnabry’s of this world not the Nevilles, Butts and Welbecks mate.

What players have we signed for cheap or free, educated them into our footballing system and then sold them on for serious money.

We simply don't do it, we don't have a system, we bang on about our academy but a lot of them are not good enough or leave on a free.

Gnarby is the perfect example, bayern took him and improved him and now look at him. english clubs just don't seem to have that about them.

Come on ed soton want welbz for 5.5m 😂.

{Ed047's Note - 🤣🤣 I did see that and smile mate. Was a bit of a shock when they said he was 29 though!

A young Ronaldo certainly improved with us and went on to be sold for a big chunk of change.

We’re not a selling club. So anyone decent stays at the club?!

How many players from Lyon academy starred their semi final? How many from Munich academy?
When was the last time valencia produced a few top stars?

Ed does Depay qualify as an answer to your question?

{Ed047's Note - err no I don’t think so

That’s pretty much what I was referring to Eric. We don’t really sell or let go of players like that often.

Pogba is the biggest one that comes to mind.

I thought "the nevilles and the butts " did quite well 🤔 god only knows what the "giggs and Scholes " would have gone for.
