Lots of pessimism on the site about the window right now rightly or wrongly. Until we take the plunge we won't know how to judge it.

Sancho deal seems crazily overpriced. I'd like him in our team. But for the reported €120m fee plus agent fees, surely the sensible thing would be to boost the squad. My suggestions are:

Brooks £20m
James Rodriguez £30m
O Dembele - loan to buy?

Then there is change for a CB or DM and the squad is instantly better.

As far as fullback rotation goes, we have Williams, and Dalot needs a chance this season tiffing before we let him go. TFM seems to be rated by OGS too so I can't see us investing.

Eric, none of the above improves the first XI.
We should be targeting 3 or 4 first teamers to close the gap at the top.

A top CB like Upamecano, A top Midfielder like Saul or Thiago, A top attacker like Sancho should be the ones we must be targeting.

If we need a goal, we will have the likes of Rash or Greenwood to call from the bench which would make a huge difference.

I would also like a fullback (LB) who can put in good crosses and add extra bit of quality going forward.

rashford is a starter every week.

greenwood is going to hit a patch where nothing goes for him, i agree we need to improve the first team

and the areas for that are CB, RW, CDM.

TRD -ed002 stated that upamecano wouldn't be moving soon, but I agree he is a standout candidate, Saul- would love to see him ina utd shirt But Sancho no. Would prefer a seasoned striker for a couple of years allowing 2 of rash, martial and greenwood to play across the frontline predominantly from the wings supplying and cutting in. Greenwood would blossom which will make him imo, our marquee player. Stikers like cavani or dream signing lewandowski. Lb would take reguilon ( decent price) or sandro in a deal that sees pogba go other way ( helps fund the Saul deal) . We can but hope.

The reported Sancho fee could clearly be spread across a few players. For example, David Alaba, Ibrahim Sangare and Federico Chiesa might well cost around the same amount as Sancho on his own.

I'd argue we'd have a better squad spending it in that sort of way.

Big money signings rarely work out. Why take such a gamble?

Teams like Liverpool prove that fantastic players can be bought for relatively modest amounts. And, it's not like Liverpool buy 10 players and one comes good.

For every de Bruyne, VVD and Mbappe there are plenty of Torres, Hazards, Pepes, Coutinhos, Maguires, de Marias, de Ligts, Dembeles, Griezmans, James, Pogbas and Jovics etc.

Eric I’m not sure about your full back point. Shaw can’t be relied upon to be fit the entire season and isn’t great going forward. AWB is dependable, great defensively and weak going forward. Williams has potential but has looked out of his depth lately. Dalot hasn’t done enough with his chances and Ole doesn’t fancy him, so much so he’s given game time to TFM when forced to, and TFM has looked out of his depth to the point you can see why his loan spells didn’t work out.

We need attacking threat from our full backs with our system and there is a case to say AWB was the wrong choice for RB, but given his reliability we should at least have more attacking threat from the left to negate the lack from the right. I think a top attacking left back should be a priority this summer, Shaw can cover, Williams can cover AWB and Dalot and TFM can go in my opinion.

Only paper talk but I feel like we might be moving towards some short term options with more experience that may be more affordable in the current climate. You never know how the negotiations go but feels like the initial ones OGS wanted are becoming unobtainable for various reasons.
I hope we use our scouts on the continent well this year and possibly bring some players from there as value seems to be better.
I want Sancho but starting to feel like the deal is not going to get done and if it is will not leave much of a budget for elsewhere.
I like the Lille defender but looks like we snoozed on that one.
Rumours now of us looking at Kante, not sure realistic but if he can stay fit and price right probably suits the HM OGS wants to play especially as Partey or Niguez unlikely.
LB to challenge Shaw with Williams moving over to the right.
