Quite interesting the trial has been overturned so quickly, 🤔 maybe it wasn't as open and closed as people thought 🤷‍♂️

He is once again innocent until proven otherwise.

{Ed001's Note - or it could just be that the legal system in Greece moves more quickly.}

Interesting that the solicitor for the prosecution has basically said that if they were to apologise then charges can still be dropped. Does that sound like they are totally convinced about the allegations?
Or maybe they are just very nice people?
Something fishy about the whole thing.

{Ed001's Note - again why do you all want to make insinuations based on ignorance? That is how it works in Greece. You can apologise and it goes away. It is a very bizarre system but it is one of the reasons it has become such a big party place, as people can cause trouble and then just apologise and get away with it. Depending on what it is they have done of course.}

Im making no judgement at all ed, just watching it closely, the truth usually outs in the situations then we will see what really happened, if he is found guilty on appeal of the charges brought against him then all the punishment and vitriol he receives will be justified, if he i'd found innocent after a more thorough trial he deserves mercy 🤷‍♂️ my take on it anyhow.

{Ed001's Note - I just wish people would sit back and wait until it is done before commenting. Some of the stuff on here is so far wide of the mark. People are confusing lawyers' statements with what Maguire said etc. The problem is we will probably never know the full story anyway.}

Yea Ed, and there are 'new' anti corruption laws in Greece (2020) which make bribery a very serious offence - more so than before. So why was Maguire's alleged bribery classes as a 'misdemenour'?
I've said before, I he has done what is alleged then he deserves all he get. I'm not even trying to defend him actually. I'm just saying that, in my opinion, it all seems a little bit like a kangaroo court scenario.
If he has done as suggested, he gets no sympathy from me at all. But it seems a big IF at the moment, that's all.

Only know what I've read, and i'm not exactly Perry Mason so truth be told I've misunderstood quite a bit, don't know anything about the Greek legal system either, was just willing to give our captain the benefit of the doubt until no further doubt existed, nothing more, nothing less.

{Ed001's Note - they can't just decide to class it as a different offence, stop looking for things that are not there. It is most likely that they have a different system on the island. Many semi-independent islands around the world also maintain their own legal system. To you it may seem like a kangaroo court, but that's ignorance speaking as you have no idea. I have no experience of their judicial system to make a judgement on it, I very much doubt you have either. It could very well be like the Isle of Man is here, where they have their own legal system, based on the English one, but with many differences. So why make assumptions based on a few half-researched pieces on the internet? I am sure every pro-Man Utd blogger is cranking out articles denigrating the legal system there in an attempt to claim Maguire is hard done by, just as every anti-Man Utd one will be doing the opposite. None of them will have done any real research and have probably based their nonsense on what wiki tells them. Why not just wait and see?}

Ed1 i say we should stick to football and let it run its course and see what comes of it. Too many judges on here etc. My personal opinion is the appeal may provide more detail and a clearer version of events. Until that happens and a result comes, not much point stressing over it!

{Ed001's Note - exactly. Let's just wait and see.}

Ed,

I think there was just a bit of an argument and abuse going on yesterday based on the verdict so I can see why people seem wound up about the whole thing on here.

{Ed001's Note - I don't know why people are so desperate to take sides one way or the other.}

Ed,

Meet football fans 😂.

{Ed001's Note - they have become more and more tribal in recent years. It is disturbing how blinkered people can be and how seriously they take a game.}

GDS I think it’s more than just football fans. Society seems like it’s changing. There’s less room for opinion, you’re either right or wrong. Really is a strange time, and I think social media plays a huge part in it all.

I totally agree Ed, let's wait and see. That's what I've said in a few other posts. What you said at the beginning of your previous reply is exactly why I am sceltical about the whole think - "they can't just decide to class it as a different offence".
Attempting to bribe a Police Officer is a serious offence anywhere, including Greece - so why class it as a misdemeanor, which is a minor offence dealt with in small local court which is the case here? Just seems like a rush job to get a quick conviction.
I'm not looking to argue, or even wanting a reply to my post, I'm merely trying to explain why I'm sceltical about the whole thing.
I'm not trying to suggest he is innocent, just that a proper trial is needed is such a potentially serious and high profile case 👍.

{Ed001's Note - it is not a serious offence everywhere, you have just pointed out that it wasn't considered serious on the Greek mainland until this year. Why is it difficult to believe that on a Greek island they still class it as a misdemeanour? If Maguire's legal team saw an issue with that, you can bet they would have jumped on it. Clearly they feel it is normal to do so there.}

Ed01 is bang on here Imo, truth is we don't really know what's going on . most united fans will give it the, one of our own mentally and close ranks, anti united fans probably opposite .

Truth tends to come out in the end but let's be honest, a lot don't care about the truth .

{Ed047's Note - my issue is the condoning of the alleged behaviour not whether he’s guilty or not, that issue will be sorted at his appeal.

Spot on Ed. Even after the appeal goes through, no one will know for certain exactly what happened, unless you were there. God knows why there's so much furore on both fronts.
