I don't get how anyone could afford his ridiculous wages in the current situation isn't he on like 1 million per week currently.

{Ed0666's Note - it’s Man City Bulger, they have a different set of rules 😂

No Messi really is thinking of leaving this time. He has credible options in manchester amongst other places.

Messi signs new world record contract with Barcelona, including a lifetime coaching position at their world famous youth academy. (I think I am becoming old and cynical)

i think city will pull out all the stops to sign him and rightly so. he and Aguero are close buddies from their early football years and he gets on well with pep, under whom he played his best football. the city hierarchy have always laid out the red carpet for him - asking him to visit the academy etc. Messi aguero and debruyne in the same team makes them favourites against anyone. Plus it will be good to see him in the prem week in and out.
Having said that, unless Barcelona want rid, i see him bucking to the emotional pressure and sticking around.

Can't lie, would love to see him in the premier league.

Id put my money on inter Milan.

I'd actually be delighted if city sign him. I mean, they'll be incredible if they do, which isn't good for us, but I don't really see us competing for the league or championship league for the next 2 years anyway, so may as well enjoy Messi lighting up our league while we can.

Ill be honest if they were siging him in his late twenties i'd be going into hiding!
But they're not they are signing him at 33, and will be paying him a small fortune. And i still don't think they would get past Liverpool or Bayern in the UCL.
Will be interesting to see how he does in the prem though.

No way the Barcelona fans will let him go. there will be riots in the streets🤣 the club will buckle to whatever his demands are and he will stay. I will agree though that it’s different this year than others when this story cropped up.

im not convinced his will end up in england,

can you imagine messi walking the cobbled piss soaked streets of town.

i just can't see unless his takes a massive wage cut that he will be at city.

Ken inter Milan seem to be the most logical place for Barcelona with Martinez coming the other way. But is Messi a Conte type player? He isn’t a replacement for Martinez and conte rarely changes his system. I also think Messi wants one last shot at the UCL and of his options Man City seem the most likely to do so.

He’s still the best. Would love to see him in the Premier League.

Surely he has dreamt of playing inside a full O. T. making those darting runs in behind the defence just waiting to get on the end of that clever through ball from Phil Jones and then the celebratory complex contrived handshake with J lingzzz.

Ryan conte does not sign the players at inter not does any of their managers.

I’m not convinced he will sign for City, as much as I would love to see it. His decision to leave seems to be a recent one due mainly to the Bayern drubbing and realisation that the current Barcelona team won’t win the CL again any time soon rather than one that has been long planned to me. City’s targets seem well planned rather than reactionary. Are they really just going to stump up the gazzilions in wages, signing on fee and (if required, which is still up in the air) transfer fee, just because he’s suddenly available? Surely the costs outweigh the brilliant 1-2 seasons they would get out of him.

Personally I can see him going to PSG and Neymar going the other way to Barca. That is unless he is just wangling for even better conditions on his contract.

City do things properly. Have good management. If it is financially possible they will know and plan accordingly. The shirt sale revenue and advertising income would be huge.

Plus as others have said with Pep as his manager and the rest of the squad he would have a realistic chance at winning a Champions League again. Plus if he was the final piece in the jigsaw for City he would be a hero of theirs forever.

Finally Koeman is not known for his tact and has a very very limited transfer budget to rebuild an ageing Barca. Can Messi much as loves the club and its city afford to take a chance that things will work out in the next two years?

As things stands its either buying Sancho or its a bad transfer window. I would like a team like City to raise the bar even more. I think (and ofcourse i may be wrong) that Messi to City will raise the chances of us buying Sancho. And yes because they are amateurish and they would think that we must responce to this transfer. But generally these players are one of generation, i would like to see him every week at Premier.

Do I think it is good football business if City spend £100m on Messi at 33, no. Our league is tougher, he won’t be as protected as he was at Barca, places like Burnley are tough. It is a challenge he should have looked at years ago.

However, the point that people may not pick up is that City want to be relevant in European terms, seen as the big European club. Adding Messi would definitely increase their European and Global presence/ profile and for them £100m would be worth that, even for a couple of years with him.
