2 wks to go until the season kicks off.
What are our hopes and expectations for the season ahead.
I'm looking for the team to imorove by 20 points in the league and to win a cup.
Very achievable and realistic.
No doubt we will have 3 or 4 new players so effectively a new team ole will have bought in since he started plus the emergence of greenwood and willams in particular.
Its going to be full on with a game every 3 or 4 days for the duration of the season it will be interesting to see if we can up our game and consistency.

Continue the form since January.

Finish top 4 comfortably, not reach the last day of the season without CL qualification secured. Get out of the CL group. Win a trophy, maybe.

I reckon we will see another top 4 fight this season. If we were able to improve by 12-15 points I'd say that would be very good. We've had 70 points or less in six of the seven seasons since Fergie retired. Getting 80 points would show we're on the right track at continuing to improve. I can't see a title challenge without another 4 or 5 players coming in who all settle well and perform.

Winning a trophy would be great but the only realistic possibility of that is the League cup or FA cup. If we managed to win one of those finish with around 80 points and maybe end up in a CL quarter final (probably dependant on the draw) I'd say that had been an excellent season but the most important of the three for me would be the league points. Domestic cups are great and I'm as ecstatic as anyone when we win them but they aren't always a great sign of progress, showing consistency in the league does do this.

I‘ll be honest in that I do envy Arsenal for their last two games, winning two trophies.
And I am sure most people see it as progress.
And it will stand them in good stead in the future having won these two finals.

Don’t underestimate the power of winning Cups and Trophies and Leagues.

I am sure Liverpool would never have performed like they did last season without being Champions of Europe.

So yes, please win Cups, no matter how small.

Top 3 and a trophy.
The gap against the top 2 should be much lesser.

Last 14 games exploded out for a season jred sees us on between 88 to 90 points so that would be terrific and not unreasonable. 20plus points gives us 86 points.

Yeah that's fair jred. Good expectations to have.

Ken, I'd like to see us comfortably within the top 4 and have an additional 15-20 points onboard. I don't think that's unreasonable.

It'd be nice to win a trophy but honestly, I want to see us close that gap dramatically next season in the league. If we do that, I think cup opportunities will sort itself out.

We could close thd gap just by the scouse not doing as well.

I’d like to see us come within ten points of whoever finishes top of the table, reach the Champions League quarters at a minimum and to win either of the FA or League cups.

Reading that back in my head is pretty depressing considering where we were less than ten years ago.

Good post. For me:

1. 80 points+ and also be in the equation for the title into 2021.
2. CL Last 16+.
3. A domestic cup.

20 more points is going to be difficult Ken - i would not expect our form against the top 6 to be as good next season as i don't think it reflects our squad's capability.
Winning 5 more games than we did last season is more achievable i think. That would give us between 10 and 15 points more than this time - putting us between 76 and 81 - which i think is a good achievement for this squad and should put us in the top 4.
A cup would be great and is a must i think, given we have won nought in the last 3 years - wouldn't mind the EFL, but would love the FA cup.
A run into the champions league quarter finals would also be a good result.

I think getting into the top four will be a lot harder this year.

Arsenal are on the way up. Decent squad and a very strong manager who has already won more in six months or so than Ole in a year and a half.

Chelsea have bought well with more players to come in and won't be as wasteful in front of goal with Werner and defensively will be a lot stronger too.

Realistically Leicester and Wolves will probably not be as good as last year. So I think top five should be a certainty but one never knows.

As to the points total I think if we can turn six draws into wins then that will be where we end up points wise in relation to last year

Fulham seem to be weak but Leeds and West Brom I think will be a lot better than Watford and Norwich. Villa will have a problem if Grealish goes and if they don't get better attackers. Newcastle without funds may have a tough time but overall I think the league this year is stronger than last. And City and Liverpool will be desperate to win the title.

I agree jred i think pool will be about 10 points worse off and city will do better i'd imagine.
So 85 to 90 points should have us in the mix.
Chelsea will imorove i aresenal could well improve
Spurs have pretty much the exact same points as ole got since jose took over so they will be one to watch too.
Hopefully we can compete a bit longer than end of Jan.

Relegation battle and Ole sacked by the new year obviously.

I expect top 4, I think the gap between us and City/ Liverpool will be lower, I think City will likely win it. I think Liverpool may not perform as well, they haven't really changed much to their squad in a few seasons, which can be a problem sometimes. I expect Chelsea to be improved and us to be to, I can imagine us getting more goals, the defence is worrisome however. I think Arsenal will also be improved but not strong enough to get top 4. Leicester will likely not do a repeat and I can see Spurs stagnating under Mourinho, they do not seem to have much to invest too. Everton may be a dark horse with Ancelotti especially if they get some decent singings in.

As for cups, would be good to win one, and quarter finals of the CL would be ideal.

OGS will not finish the season as our boss. The league will be scrapped in Jan due to C.V. and Harry Maguire will be made Envoy to Greece as part of his sentence for cheating at mini golf on the idyllic island of Mykonos. we're all doomed i tell ya . 😁😁.

18.) 01 Sep 2020
01 Sep 2020 15:14:17
Only joking
I believe we are good enough to challenge this season on all fronts as long as we buy a CB RM and a CF 😁😁.

19.) 01 Sep 2020
01 Sep 2020 15:43:07
I expect to be within 6 points of first place at all times. If we don't throw away points to smaller sides and we can compete with the top sides, then that should be achievable.

I think our biggest problem was when either pogba and Bruno weren't at their top level, or when the front 3 weren't taking chances. With dvdb coming in, that means we have fresh ideas from midfield when required. So I think with a top forward to mix it up with our front 3 we should be able to solve those problems.

So I expect a top forward to join and I expect to be within touching distance of the top of the league at all times, plus semis or better in one English cup and semis or better in champions league.

Anything less just isn't good enough.

To win the league or get anywhere near winning it will be an achievement. Top 4 will be excellent so would a couple of quality signings that we have been crying out for all summer. Come on Ed Woodward show us the money and that you've got balls.

League and cup double.

Liverpool remember that they aren't all actually superhuman.

City continue the decline. We realise that Arteta was the driving force behind Pep Arsenal overtake them. But then pull an arsenal and fail in the winter months.

Chelsea biggest threat. But don't quite gel.

Tottenham and jose drift into obscurity.

Ken

My expectations are that if we spend the money on 3 good/ top players there must be a significant improvement in points, you are probably right, 20 points or at least get to circa 83 points, whilst retaining top 4 but no lower than 3rd and win a cup. That has to be seen as progress.

I think we need to see improvement in in game management, coaching from Ole to achieve that. If I was the club I would look at a better No2 or at the very least a forward looking coach added to the coaching set up, given we seem to look back at what worked without looking forward. Always liked Muelensteen when he was at OT, but it is that kind of thinking. My expectations are the club won’t do that.

I wonder if not having an alternative, a real centre forward or plan B, could hamper our expectations, buying Ighalo is not the answer.

My expectations are to see one or two of the kids break in, Mejbri being one.

So 83 plus points, 3rd as lowest in the league and win the FA Cup, plus improvement in coaching and a kid breakthrough moment.
