As things stand, we are looking at burning out by December. We have 3 brilliant midfielders out of which one is an enigma and decides when to play. We have 2 good strikers in Martial and Greenwood if he can stay focussed on the game and not go the Ravel Morrison way. We have one wide forward in Rashford who on his day is unplayable and when its not his day, its like playing with 10 men. We have 2 fullbacks who are incapable of crossing a football even if that meant saving their lives. We have one brilliant crosser in Dalot but he can't buy a game.

It feels like Jose's third season transfer window where we are linked with every footballer but just won't pay up. Sancho will sign for Liverpool next summer. We can't get Reguilion. We aren't getting that french defender from RBL. Chelsea have strengthened, Liverpool even if they don't get Thiago are strong. City are strong enough. Arsenal have strengthened and Spurs will too.

We might need a C.V. break in Jan to freshen our lot up.

Agree Shan.

How Chelsea have done their business is commendable.
Identified the players and are on track to fix all the holes in their squad.
They are showing ruthlessness as well by bringing in a new GK despite spending world record fee on Kepa.

Question is, are the decision makers happy with top 4?
Still hope United can pull off Sancho, Upamecano and an attacking LB.

3 weeks left Shan, let’s see where we are then. Plenty of time to make a few things happen.

Feeling confident then Shan 🤣.

Think our lack of confidence stems from the ineptitude of our board and their visible lack of ambition. If we had a competent set up then things wouldn’t always seem so bad 🤷‍♂️.

New season, new optimistic Shan.

Unbeaten in the league since January, we aren’t as bad as some would have you believe.

I actually agree with Shan on one point. I can't easily forget how tired the players looked in our last lot of games. I worry the short break will have us running on empty before long.

The drop off in quality from our first XI to the rest of the squad is huge and has to be a massive worry for Ole. Remember he didn’t really trust his subs towards the end of the season and in the Europa League. Hopefully dan James etc can step up and give us better options off the bench.

The difference is Chelsea have an owner who will happily invest money into the club quickly to address areas, whereas ours only care about what the share price looks like on the NY stock market.

Tim,

The main drop off in quality was between Bruno and the rest, VDB fills that gap now so we don’t have to play Bruno in every game, this should help a lot as he was burnt out towards the end of the season.

We need a couple more signings and fingers crossed we get them, still a few weeks left in the window and Ed has told us we have interest in players, fingers crossed we get them in, if not then maybe another kid will step up like Greenwood.

I feel sorry for Ole as I think with the right players signed we could have a good shot at it and if it doesn’t work then he’s had his chance and can go, but if not given the right players (which we all agree he’s 2 or 3 short) it’s going to be really difficult to judge him.

I also remember it’s really easy to talk a lot and be negative while we aren’t playing, once the games start coming thick and fast and people realise how good we can actually be people will surely calm down a bit.

It wasn’t just Bruno who was shattered.
AWB, Maguire, Matic and Rashford were all abysmal in the last half a dozen games - had completely run out of energy. Where are the rotational options now through the door for those guys? Oh, wait.
We needed 5 signings this summer and are probably now going to end up with one, plus maybe one on loan.
I dread to think of the points we’ll drop on a Saturday away at the likes of Newcastle/ Villa/ Burnley having needed to start Lingard/ Fred/ James in order to rest Bruno/ Martial/ Pogba for the following Tuesday’s trip to the Allianz Arena.

Shan and I have had our disagreements but I find myself agreeing with his post, those are the issue we need to fix.

This year we will be facing higher level of opposition midweek as we are in Champions League.
Therefore it's crucial for us to get quality players in to compete strongly in all competitions.

the amount of games in that space of time after the restart was hopefully a bit of a 1 off .

Could be a case of prioritising the UCL and Premier League and using the domestic cups to play the youth and fringe players. It’s the only way we can keep players fresh as our squad isn’t as deep as others.

jred, let me ask you a question. Would you be happy to play Lingard, Perreira in the CL to give breaks to DvB, Bruno or Pogba. Would be rest Rashford and play James instead. Mind you we are in the CL this season and let's not take that likely else by December we will again be in the Seville cup. The amount of games will likely be similar this year because we have already lost a month and there is small matter of European Championships at the end of the season. Not to mention the international games that these lads be involved in.

I want to be optimistic but given the way we have dealt in our transfers, i am not.
