3.5 days to go and so far we've only signed 1 player, who as good as he is wasn't desperately needed.

Where's the CB to partner Maguire?

Where's the LB to replace Shaw?

Where's the RW to terrify opposition defenders?

Where's the 30+ season striker to bag last minute winning goals?

We've needed the above for several transfer windows now but the board continually fail to bring them in.

Add the above to the fact we've got a manager that no other team would take (I reckon even Fulham would stick with Parker over Ole) and the club is further away than ever from bringing the glory days back.

Keano1

Absolutely spot on and said exactly that for some time.

Where are the CBs to replace Maguire and Lindelof.

Ole doesn't win the lot this year he needs to go.

With the squad he has he has to be challenging no excuses.

When you see the fixtures we have coming up and the intensity/ quality of the opposition we play all in a short time then we are in trouble. We need quality options to be able to rest and rotate but we haven’t got that. Ole does have his faults but the recruiting of players isn’t his fault, he will probably end up burning players out as he doesn’t trust those behind them. Praying and hoping for a big 3 days ahead 🙏.

Keano,

1. How many world class CB's are there that are available and want to join us? Plus we already have 8 CB's in the first team squad. If we sign a couple more then one third of our first team squad will be CB's.

2. 90% sure Alex Telles will sign before Tuesday.

3. His name is Mason Greenwood and he is already at the club. We might even sign someone to compete with him for the first team spot.

4. There was only 2 centre forwards who scored more than 30 goals last season, Lewandowski and Immobile. Neither were players we have been linked with. Every other player who scored more than 30 goals last season did so from a wide position. While no front three in England scored more goals last season than Rashford, Martial and Greenwood. The striker we have been mostly linked to is Josh King, are you throwing your toys out the pram over Josh King not signing?

I take it from your post Shappy that all is well with Utd in your mind and you think we're all set for the new season with a squad to compete on all fronts! Seriously I know the weekend is upon us but have you been on the sauce already!

1. Upamecano. No idea if he fancies life in the north west but why not try and find out!

2. Utd have shown no inclination to pay the required fee for Telles and the clock is ticking.

3. Mason is not a RW. We haven't had a world class one since Ronaldo left in 2009.it's now 2020 for God's sake! Sancho looks world class to me, is young, is English and has even lived in Manchester before plus we've got a free run at him. you couldn't make up a better transfer scenario and Utd are still cocking it up!

4. I'd take Jovic on loan in a heartbeat to provide much needed cover for the front three. No idea why you're bringing up Josh King.

Shappy,

1. I agree that only a few WC CB's out there but it does not necessarily be a WC CB, there are some young upcoming players with great potential we could sign like Upamecano. The amount of CB's we have is a reflection of how poor the transfer dealings have been.

2. Telles, hope we do sign him but again it's the way we seem to go about it that frustrates everyone.

3. Greenwood is more of a forward than a RW and he is not the sort of player who is going to terrify the defenders, more of an elegant and clever player and very clinical with his finishing. The front 3 are just forwards, neither wingers or strikers and always like to come inside.

4. We do need a striker irrespective whether he scores 30+ goals or not. We need someone who can run in behind, anticipate deliveries in the box and be very clinical in front of goal. At the moment neither our front 3 nor our fullbacks stretch the opposition enough to create spaces for the likes of Pogba, Fernandes to do their magic. They just keep coming inside and playing in front of the opposition defense and our build up play is far too slow and predictable.

Nobody would really want to bash the board or the manager for nothing but it is ridiculous how things are at the club and how things keep repeating itself over and over again.

I don’t think Shappy thinks all is well, I think he’s just putting his points down and not massively overreacting to everything.

We all want signings before Monday, fingers crossed we get them. The people making the decisions are amateurs but they generally do get deals over the line eventually, that’s what I am hoping.

The disrespect of some of our players is what gets me, some people would be happy if we signed a player from league 2 just because it’s a shiny new signing I think. We have a decent squad and hopefully we will improve it.

Remember Ole said he expects United to exploit the market?
He has been badly let down.

There are a no of players out there who can improve our squad.
Upamecano, Pau Torres for CB.

Ed said Athletico are looking for money.
We could have targeted Saul, Giminez or Partey who are world class options.

Tagliafico of Ajax is looking to leave. Werner a quality forward was looking to leave earlier in the window.

We lack a clear plan. This is why a DoF is badly needed at our club.

TrueRedDevil you forgot what Woodward said sometime ago - "We can do things in the transfer market that other clubs can only dream of. Watch this space. " and that's exactly what's going on. No other club is capable of sleeping through the transfer window and waking up trying to mop up the mess towards the end.

Is all well? Of course not, I just prefer to keep my toys in the pram. The green and gold campaign didn't shift the owners, so I doubt much whining online will make the club force transfers though.

The truth is that most people aren't happy, and they never will be unless the club sign all the players they want. Which just won't happen. Some people like Martial and think he could be a great player for us, others don't like him.

Back in 2007 we had a cracking transfer window, we signed Nani, Anderson, Hargreaves and Tevez. At the time half the people were over the moon, while half were unhappy.

They said Nani wasn't necessary we had Ronaldo and Giggs, they said Anderson was one for the future but we needed someone who could make an instant impact. They said Hargreaves was a crock and Bayern only sold him because he was injured. They were unhappy that Tevez was a loan deal which we paid a huge amount for.

Which highlights that you can't please everyone. It also highlights that what might seem like a great window (4 great players signed) can still end up being a poor window. Nani and Anderson never did fully fulfill on their promise, Hargreaves was injured for nearly his entire United career, while the less said about how the United/ Tevez relationship ended the better.

We could sign Sancho and he could flop, we could sign Alex Telles and he could have a Luke Shaw type injury and never fully recover, we could sign Luka Jovic and he could continue his Real Madrid form, 2 goals in 29 games.

Some times highly rated players flop at a club (Di Maria, Falcao, Veron) . While sometimes a player signed from obscurity becomes a club legend (Schmeichel, Vidic, Solskjaer) . Yet it is high profile "big name" signings the fans scream for.

In the last 40 years how many of our best players actually haven't been signed by the club, but actually brought up though our own academy?

For me the issues stem from the "Bristol Uni club" of Ed Woodward, Matt Judge and Richard Arnold. Yet there is little we can do about that.

So I do what I'm supposed to do, support my club. Very few club's actual win more games than they lose/ draw. We have been lucky, now we will have to endure football that is less than my ideal of great football. And no amount of crying online will change that. We have some great young players, homegrown players, our players. I look forward to seeing how they progress, hopefully a couple of them become world class.

It might take 30 years for us to get back to the very top again, football is circular after all. Those old enough to remember Best, Charlton and Law might not be around to see the third great age of Manchester United. But it will happen.

LetsPlay! United, Pogba and magic in the same sentence. I am still laughing. Thank you for that nugget.

Good debate though. I think there are many good options we could be targeting who would massively improve the squad and the first team. True Red Devil makes a good list.

I think the problem lies at the other end. Too many crap players on high wages who we can't shift to make room for players coming in.

Like TRD says, these are all symptoms of no masterplan and a club run by people who don't understand football.

Greenwood needs to play right wing as main man. Critical to his development. And yes, he terrifies defenders and keepers.

A back up utility forward who can play 40 games a season and score create is more important than pushing Greenwood out of the team for silly money.

A Director Of Football would make no difference. It be a job title without the power of the job. That person would be the scape goat.

Why do you think we been turned down by a few of them and struggling to employ one.
