Apart from Maguire’s stupid defending which should have cost us a penalty, Chelsea we’re no threat. They will be very happy with that point.
I don’t like that some fans are saying we won at PSG and a draw today is good. I think Chelsea were there for the taking. Ole was trying to be a bit too smart today. Two points dropped for me. We’re at home and have to be positive. It was extremely boring and I want more from us at home.

Apart from the team shape, Daniel James has offered nothing for a while now. Rashford may have some poor performances but he scores goals and gets assists. I think he should have been more brave and looking at the bench he had plenty of options. I feel sorry for James. It’s not his fault but I don’t think he’s the required standard for a Manchester United player. Being thrown in to these matches further highlights it. I think we need to loan him out for his own benefit.

Shaw is extremely frustrating when playing LB. He just walks around. There is absolutely no urgency. Even his throw ins are awful. Bruno was directing him a few times to make a run down the flank and he downright ignored him and sat back. Unless he is playing LCB, I don’t want to see him at LB. He’s crap there.
Lindelof was very good today and I hope he can continue his form in to the next game.

Cavani looked sharp on his debut and he makes the runs at the front post which Martial doesn’t.
Mata was class today. He was right to be gutted when he was subbed. Anyone spot his technique when he had that attempt towards the end of the first half? Looked like he was doing salsa! Brilliant!

Amz

Shaw is an interesting point. I have seen the bit where Bruno was waving for a run on the outside by Shaw, but he stood there. What we don’t know is the instructions, was Shaw told to hold to ensure Chelsea couldn’t break?

{Ed025's Note - no red man, he was told the nearest chippy was at that end of the ground mate.. :)

😀 Chips going cold, never.

Hard to believe a PL footballer would be too unfit to make that run, so why didn’t he overlap?

Hmm. I hope not.
I would rather see our LB try and make an overlapping run rather than stay back. I think Telles automatically makes that run by the way and without the instruction of Bruno.
Jose said he has to coach Shaw through every minute of the game and you can see that during a match sometimes. Some of the things he does just makes you scratch your head.
There were a couple instances where both him and AWB just sort of walked back to retrieve the ball when Chelsea had cleared their lines from a corner. It allowed them to push back out and get back in to shape. I didn’t get it. I thought why not sprint back and pick a forward pass and keep them on the back foot. Instead it was slowed down to waking pace and given to Maguire and we just end up passing it between our defenders. There was another moment where AWB let the ball go out of play so that he could have the throw in and he could have easily have kept the ball in play. This was in Chelsea’s half near their penalty box. Again, surely you keep the ball in play and try and get the ball into the box.
I can’t imagine Robertson or TAA doing these kind of things. Just contributed to the boring match and boring tactics overall.

I think the side would have had better balance yesterday with Rashford in his usual LW position instead of James and Greenwood played up top on his own. Whilst he has played RW for us CF is surely his natural position. He perhaps doesn't track back enough to play anything other than the main striker. A Rashford / Greenwood combination would have been much better than James / Rashford as the left sided / frontal attack. I cannot see James having too many performances for us if totally honest and suspect he will be loaned out at some point. I appreciate he is young but does need to develop.

Appreciate Martial is still serving his ban but I actually think when he's back i'd look to him as the RW option. Greenwood up top and Cavani the back up from the bench. Martial has improved playing No.9 for us no doubt but I still see Greenwood, despite his age, being a better out and out forward than Martial.

I see our optimal front 4 players as:

Rashford - Greenwood - Martial
(James - Cavani - Mata)

Bruno
(Van De Beek)
