“Teams' defensive pressing plans are now so specific, clubs like Bayern and Liverpool treat them like trade secrets - and don't let people in to watch drills. ”

From an article in the independent, does anyone think we have a pressing plan?

When i watch us defend i hardly see us press as a unit, sort of like pistons in an engine, everything seems to be set up so we sit back and defend deep.

Its easy to say the players don't try hard enough or they don't want it enough but i think were a quite a long way off the top teams when it comes to coaching a pressing team.

There isn't much evidence to show we have a coherent plan when it comes to pressing as a team.

One thing I've noticed and mentioned previously is Wan Bissaka's press very high up the pitch. It's generally why he is sometimes out of position and will end up costing us at some point. When the ball is played out to a left sided opposition player, Wan Bissaka either has the instructions or just makes a decision on his own to press this player much higher up than the rest of the defensive line. Like I say, not sure if it's a tactical thing or just something he decides to do on his own.

On the subject of pressing, Leipzig will be a tough task tonight. Our play out from the back through any of the usual back four is suspect and they will likely be pressed heavily tonight.
