Why are United taking so long to bring players through. They seem to have a cavalier approach to young players. We have already lost Lingard, Pereira and Gomes both of whom were seen as the future. Williams, Tuanzebe, Mctominay, Greenwood and Laird are being held up as well as Henderson.
We never had this situation before - are we just to scared? Busby used to say " If they are good enough then they are old enough". Now they seem to be loaned out and we drain them of their confidence.

In comparison to whom?

Tell me which top club regularly has as many academy graduates in their matchday squads?

Who has a more successful academy?

In what world is McTominay being held up? He’s played in pretty much every game! Greenwood at 18 played 49 games for the first team last season. I don’t understand this post.

Also, where has Lingard gone?

Williams has just disappeared off the face of the team. Is he still here?

I think that's a bit harsh. We've has an Academy player in every squad for something like the last 80 years. Rashford is first choice, Greenwood was becoming first choice and will likely reclaim that spot. McTominay is a regular, Williams played a lot last year.

As for the others you mentioned, Lingard is no youngster and has failed to properly nail down a place, Gomes may have been talented but we debated on here his hunger. Tuanzebe is just back from injury, hopefully he will nail a place down.

Our record is excellent, if they are good enough then I think they will get picked.

Shan,

He was on the bench at the weekend, Ole spoke about him in this weeks press conference, sounds like he felt he had got a bit big for his boots and has been impressed with how hard he has worked in the last few weeks to prove himself.

If that's right GDS then it's a bit concerning as I've heard the same about Greenwood. With the world at your feet you'd think people would be sensible and apply themselves and not get all billy big boots. The Morrison career route is not one we want to see others follow.

In answer to your OP, we went many years producing very little. I go back to the early 70’s when people were just waiting on the next youth player to excel. I recall McIllroy being it, but that was it.

It wasn’t really until the CO92 came on the scene that it became very pronounced. It has been 80 years with a youth player in the match day squad, we shouldn’t forget that.

We have seen Greenwood and Rashford appear but perhaps the general standard of others hasn’t been good enough. There is also the point highlighted by the Ed, the youth don’t have a path to go on, there has been a lack of structure to development.

The club invested heavily in summer, plus the likes of Puigmal, Mejbri, Shoretire as well. It also needs to be considered the conditions to bring youth in, struggling teams under pressure is a tough environment, add to that if the manager is under pressure they are less likely to take chances on youth.

I was disappointed to see Gomes go, hope he makes it, but if they are good enough, if they have it mentally. they will make it somewhere.

Looks like puigmal may leave red man. Interest from Spain I’ve read. Nothing worse than a young player biting at the heels of the first team to hear of interest from their homeland. Has been filling it at right back and has impressed there tbh. I had high hopes for the young trench lad aliou traore too.

Disappointed to hear Puigmal may leave, another player brought in with great hope. I do wonder if the lack of a path planned out is not helping us. Thing is these lads will go back and tell others they don’t get a chance. We have heavily invested this summer, they need to make sure those signed in the last window are managed through the process.
