Watching DVB again night, just don't know his position, he is tidy on the ball, but what are his positives on the pitch, he arrived as this great ball playing midfielder, but l really don't see him in the team. Where did he excel playing for Ajax. We know what to get from Fred, McTominay, Bruno etc. but still waiting to see him really play in a role and show his abilities.

I agree. It’s all very pretty but it doesn’t really fit at the moment. In some respects there have been a few players trying to find their niche, I’d even include Pogba in that. We have the talent, it looks like we also have the attitude now, just need to find the right formation and style.

him having 1 game here and there and a few sub run outs is not going to do him much good.


he is a good player, does his fit in at united and the way we play?

hard to judge when he's not had a proper crack at it yet.

He needs a consistent run of games to show his true qualities.
However, he needs to grab his chances to get more opportunities.

He plays good 1 touch, 2 touch passes. Moves the ball quickly.
I'd like him to play more defense splitting passes.

It's all one touch with him, he very rarely puts his foot on the ball turns and goes forward. The amount of times in the first half he came short to receive a pass from one of our centre backs then immediately passes it back and runs off was ridiculous. Another thing i noticed is that when we have a corner he has a tendency to stand 10 yards away from who ever is taking the corner doing absolutely nothing rather than getting in to to penalty area and making himself a nuisance of himself. I can't work him out. I don't actually know if he brings anything to our team the way we play. I don't think that he will be at Man United for more than 1 maybe 2 seasons at the most and i don't think it was an Ole purchase. I think he was bought to appease the fans because of the failure to land Sancho.

He's a central midfielder so it's not surprising that he didn't flourish being stuck out on the left wing. Another bizarre decision by Solksjaer.

Clearly grealish was the number one target for the cm/ am/ lm role that ole wanted but he was priced out of a move like sancho was.

Van de beek was available and attainable and more importantly fits most aspects of the clubs desired signing, right age profile, affordable price, seems like a really good lad, technically proficient and can chip in with a goal and assist. Main problem is that his direct competition is bruno fernandes who is undroppable at the minute.

The club can't really lose on this signing, he's a good player who can contribute, assume he's not on massive wages so if it doesn't work out there will be a queue of top european clubs that would want to sign him.

Far better player than Fred, at least he can make a five yard pass and control a ball efficiently. Not to bad at closing down and tackling too, which are probably Fred's only two positives (when he doesn't lose the ball immediately after winning it that is) .

Donny is the guy who transitions the ball quickly and accurately through midfield. One or two touch pass and move football.

I was excited by his signing as he is the player I felt we needed to move the ball quicker through midfield to increase the tempo of our attacks.

Pogba has a greater passing range, but he has a tendency to hold onto the ball for too long meaning that once we have the ball the opposition are back in shape before he releases it.

However, with Pogba still here and our poor form early on in the season Ole has decided he needed more work rate and defensive cover in midfield so Donny hasn't had the opportunity to have a run of game in midfield. Often playing out of position, with tactics that doesn't make the most of his talents and playing sporadically, starting one game every 10 days to two weeks and getting the odd 20 minutes at the end of games.

I'm confident that if given a run of games in midfield then he will make a strong case for being first choice and could have a positive impact on our team. As someone mentioned above that might be with our next manager rather than Ole.

Donny was getting MOM ratings a few weeks ago, but an admittedly dodgy outing in midweek and he's suddenly not right at all. I personally think he's Utd's best all-round central midfielder (not including Bruno who I see as the perfect tip in the diamond) . There's room for Donny and I expect a few midfield departures so hopefully he can continue to develop.

Might want to try watching fred a bit closer. He has been excellent recently, easily playing better than VDB. He passes forward! VDB is in danger of looking like the new Tom Cleverly. His passing needs to be more penetrative to be a success in this team. I think he is in there, but needs to settle and find his feet.

Hasn’t had a man of the match rating from me at any point, he’s been ok, better than average a couple of times but nothing special to prove he deserves his shot just yet.
