Happy New Year everyone.
Well done on your win, was a good game to watch.

I have to say, the penalty decision shows VAR up for what it is, a geometrical toy for people to manipulate reality, and that toy has been misused from day 1.
Two instances last night, show Pogba clearly tripping over his own leg, and a blatant Maguire handball in the last minutes.

I know its done and dusted now, but would like to hear your take on it.

Villadave

I thought it was a penalty but a soft one. I thought the Villa player connected with Pogba’s left leg and that contact pushed his left leg over enough to get caught behind his right leg. Therefore it was a penalty.

I actually flagged the last seconds handball by Maguire on our live chat, his hands looked high and it looked like it hit them. I am actually surprised no one appealed and it wasn’t looked at. I am relieved it wasn’t as it would have been very similar to what happened after the final whistle at Brighton.

Villa dave what about mings elbow on pogba. Did you miss that one.
And dave did you watch the game that kept villa out of the championship.
The one where the whole world could see the ball was about a foot over the line. Did you see that one dave,
I'd like to hear your take on them ones dave.

Hey Leahy, fellow Irish man by the sounds of it. sure we all seen that goal but unless it’s in the last game of the season and in the final few mins you can’t honestly say it kept us out of the championship, goals change games and if that was counted we would of changed our in game tactics and went looking harder for a goal to equalise like we did in the 9 games after that we done what was needed, united being I think the only game we didn’t get points from and your first goal in that was a penalty ye got cause Bruno stood on konsa it was pretty dubious call, circumstances dictate how u play a game, we needed a draw in last game that’s what we played for, if ye needed a draw to win the league u wouldn’t risk losing if ye were lvl in the last 10 mins to try win, and what about all matic fouls when he came on.

Agree with you on all fronts really, Dave. It was an entertaining match that was well fought by both sides, we were a little lucky to get our penalty and more so for not conceding one.

As Whackyvillain points out though, circumstances dictate how a team plays and had the Pogba penalty not been given I’m fairly confident that we’d have kept pushing until we got the winning goal.

The Maguire handball was just one of those really. Sometimes they go your way and somethings they don’t. We were the lucky ones the other night, but you’ve been lucky too in the past just as we’ve been on the wrong end of some of those decisions (or lack thereof) .

Whacky stay off that backy.
Does grealish take the odd old dive. I mean he would win gold for some of them.
Now villa hace done well. Have been very lucky and got a few decisions.
But you have a good side.
But I wouldn't moan about that penalty if I was a villa supporter.
In fact I wouldn't moan for the whole of the season. I would be grateful to be where ye are.

Not moaning about anything really Leahy, if you read my post further down the page 👇👇👇 you’ll see my opinion on it was that it was a 50/ 50 call much like the maguire handball at the end, it could of gone either way it wasn’t a definite or a definitely not, it’s fair to say we don’t get the big decisions against the bigger teams, had it being united that day instead of Sheffield I’d bet my house VAR would of intervened, yes jack wins frees but only 1 penalty this season where as united must have about 10 thus far and they ain’t all stonewall peno’s. yes we are lucky to be when we are but we wouldn’t be where we are if we weren’t playing well, as united are lucky that Liverpool and city are not as good as previous years but you make your own luck and if your not getting results it don’t matter what way other teams are playing but ye are getting some good points on the board while Liverpool are dropping them, your far from the united of old but definitely heading in the right direction hence why I also mentioned I think you will win the league this year, I don’t know if your just a sort of arrogant fella or just like an argument but I didn’t come by for an argument I just dropped by to pay a compliment and see what you guys take on it is.

Whacky backy. I don't come on for arguments and I'm not that arrogant.
I'll have a chat with anyone.
Now happy new year to you whacky.
And best of luck for the rest of the season.

He is a nutter whacky stay well clear😂😂 i think it was a soft pen but just the right call. i'm not one for blaming refs decisions. That's football refs will always make mistakes. Generally we leave the ref whinging to the Scousers who generally think the whole world is against them.

I think we have had 6 penalties this season and scored 5, I believe Leicester have had more and Brighton have had the same number, weird that they aren’t above us really.

Dave, watch match of the day, they zoomed in and slowed the penalty decision down for you, Wright and Shearer both agreed it’s a definite penalty and a good decision as did every other pundit I’ve seen.

It was soft, but technically a penalty.

It probably was a pen but I wouldn't of argued to much if it wasn't given and would be a bit disappointed if it was given against me .

Exactly it was one you'd hope to get but not concede.
