Been lurking for a while. Live in the USA but was a British citizen till I was 30. Grew up playing in Surrey. Was a high school soccer coach for over 40 years here in the states.

Anyway I have enjoyed most, and I mean most, posts and insights on this board.

My biggest complaint about Ole, and the staff, is that when they show them on the sidelines it almost looks like they are asleep. I see no fire or emotion from them. I seriously doubt they could fire me up as a player.

Agree to an extent coachusa.
But at the moment Ole has fired us to the top.

Welcome.

That might be a reason for our slow starts however we’ve started better recently, and the players certainly come out for the second half ready to go.

Times change, and shouting at young people isn’t the done thing these days.

Coachusa

In game management has been an area I and many others have been critical of Ole over. On Sunday he seemed to make a decisive decision over the substitutions but he doesn’t seem to have much impact from the side at any time. I am not sure shouting and screaming from the sidelines always helps but making sure we are set up right and make changes at key moments is important and it is hard to do that without making yourself heard or seen.

I'm not sure if shouting your tactical changes from the side line 10 yards away from the opposition manager and for all the opposition players to hear is particularity advantageous.

While screaming at pampered millionaires just to gee them up is also not as likely to have the effects you would want.

Times change and people with them. I'm less concerned by Solskjaer's demeanour on the side lines than I am about the teams slow starts and the seeming delays in changing things.

The slow starts I think can be fixed by increasing the intensity on the warm ups and increase the players focus.

I think Ole does make in game changes, slight shifts in shape, in focus etc. What he doesn't do is throw on subs early. But that might be more to do with him believing his best players are already on the pitch. I'd take a brave man to take off one of Rashford, Martial or Bruno to throw on Lingard, Mata or James.

Shappy I'm not talking about yelling tactical changes, by the way it only takes opposing coaches about two minutes to figure out any changes you make. Not saying yell at the players, although sometimes it might help, just show some emotion like you care.

Watch Klopp on the sidelines, very emotional, then look at Ole and he seems to be looking at his computer a lot and at times I think he might be watching a movie or something.

Could the slow starts be down to the manager seating on his heated seat watching the game on his monitor?

I'm sure there are pros and cons of barking orders on the touchline, but I would like to see my manager there. Keeps everyone on their toes, reminds them of their duties and even if it gets an extra 5% from the players it's worth it.

Keane on the pitch would hold people to task. It raises the bar. Look at Henderson for Liverpool. Above average footballer but watch the video of him vs Atalanta. He's encouraging every single challenge, every pass, every throw in. Complimenting every time a player does something well. He's a great captain and you can tell when he's not playing.

Anyone who has managed people in a fast moving environment, you have to be on top of them. Games at this level are won and lost by fine margins.

Who isn't entertained by watching Conte losing his mind every match?

I don't think its about giving instructions. Its about motivating the players more. For me a manager can't be observer, i don't mean beeing like Conte but something in the middle.

Klopp and Guardiola are very evident coaching vocally from the touchline unlike Ole, it may not be his style but a show of passion now and again might help the players.
