Pogba out for a couple of weeks. VDB it's your time to shine and show us you deserve a place. Assuming Ole doesn't just play Fred of course, which wouldn't surprise me.

But in all seriousness, if vdb is supposed to be pogba's replacement then he really should be starting all of the next few games and if he does, he needs to show he deserves to keep his place.

Here's hoping he does just that.

Watching DVB against WHU last night I was very unimpressed. For somebody surely gagging for this opportunity he didn’t show enough for the ball. Neither did he shout for or demand the ball. When he did get the ball he simply performed a very snappy short return pass or a sideways or back pass. I know there’s more there but he looked lost and almost relieved to be subbed. Disappointing and confusing in equal measure.

I disagree scooby.

Whilst I agree he was unimpressive, he was making space and asking for the ball alot. The only issue was that the team were reluctant to play it too him and preferred the "safe" option. Could that be down to a lack of confidence in him from the team?

He made a lot of runs but never got the ball.

1 of a few if not the onky player moving without the ball last night.

Ww are far to static that's why we cannot bresk teams down.

Slow and boring with and without the ball.

I found his movement to be poor. He kept moving behind a West Ham player so he couldn't receive the ball.

A talented player no doubt but after watching him last night and against Liverpool I wonder if he's a bit fragile mentally. He doesn't look like he wants it.

He certainly hasn't done anything to prove he should be in the starting 11 and his performances (albeit they've been few and far between) have declined since the start of the season.

If we know Pogba is leaving and we know VDB is the future, we should be playing VDB as much as possible and phasing Pogba out. But Ole hasn't done that and we're beginning to see why.

Hes been poor, looked off the pace last night. Understandable as he hasn't played regular football.

I am a bit surprised that he's being pencilled in as a pogba replacement next season by so many fans, seem like polar opposite players.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's sold in the summer as he still rightly has an impressive reputation on the continent and his agent is not shy of letting people know that donny isn't happy with a bit part role.

He looked completely lost and overwhelmed by everything last night and in every game i have seen him play this season.
His movement was poor, he constantly passed the ball backwards. He never turned once with the ball and tried to make something happen.
At one point he received a pass in the opposition box and instead of having a run at the defender or crossing it he actually turned back and played the ball backward. I actually felt sorry for him at that point. I really can't see him being at United next season.

At this moment in time I can’t think of one reason why I would want Ole to start him ahead of Fred.

Once again last night his movement was there but he seems scared to death of taking any risks, he never takes the ball and turns, he constantly plays the safe pass, I’d be interested to know how many of his passes went straight back to the player who gave it to him. That’s fine a few times but he never seems to want to create, leaving that job to other players and taking no responsibility for the team actually winning.

I’ve said it before but the last player we had who used to just do what VDB is doing was Tom Cleverley and he got absolute pelters from our own fans saying he wasn’t good enough and safe and boring isn’t good enough. Unless VDB starts to take some risks and improves there isn’t a place for him in the team. I think there is a player there and he’s clearly having a ‘tough time’ and struggling to settle. I am hoping to see a huge improvement before he gets near being a first choice selection.

It would probably help if he is played in his proper position as a midfielder rather than a number 10.

Id like to see him get a few games in a midfield two preferably alongside mctominay.

I think VDB is yet to adapt to the league and our team.
But I don't see an X factor in him. He doesn't seem to create any chance and doesn't possess good passing range.
Almost of all his passes are either sideways or backwards.

Maybe he is having a slow start like Fred. Personally I would have liked him to drop deeper and get more involved in the play.

Said that a few weeks ago GDS. TC23 reincarnated. He has to create more, far too safe and everything is short.

And that's why the problem is the coach . Donny doesn't make things happen and gets pelters because of this. We are used in midfielder who makes things happen and make a moment of magic. that's the only we know, not too progressive.
In a parallel Universe our team would know how to make the most of his movements and we would say what a good player he is. Donny doent and can't make things happen but moves ball time and makes the team tick. To make most of him we must become Ajax Bayern Barcelona etc and play total football that don't depend in individual magic. I said it before, we are not ready for Donny.

Oh so it’s Ole’s fault that Donny is playing badly? Which means it must be Ole’s fault that Shaw, AWB, mctominay, fred, Bruno and cavani are all playing well then?

A good player can play in any team, he should be able to adapt and hopefully he will but saying he’s amazing but the coach is useless so he can’t play well is bolloxology in my opinion.

He is not an amazing player. We will judge him in time.
But he is a player well suited in well coached teams like Ajax or City in which every player knows what exactly has to do with a lot of movement around him, quicker build up and generally a more progressive style.
Yesterday again we were so slow in our build up that i needed two coffees to not sleep. Its not about being effective or not. Its about being progressive and well coached.
In a progressive team you don't rely in a player to make things happen (thats why we think Donny is crap when he plays) . All the team is responsible for playing good and fast taking opponents out of position so space will be created and chances will come. Like Liverpool. Pool doesn't have a "Bruno" to create. But still they are far better at opening stubborn defences.

He's a bang average player who looked good in a dominant Ajax team in a very poor league.

Herrera,

Not sure Liverpool is the best example to use on this one.
