AC Milan in the next round of the Europa League. Great game.

Battle of the fallen giants.
Zlatan vs Cavani, Interesting draw.

{Ed077's Note - Cavani is certainly not a fallen giant yet. And Zlatan is still one of the top scores in Serie A. But an interesting draw none the less.}

I think he means the clubs not necessarily the players 🤔.

Ed077, I meant United and Milan as the fallen giants :)
Zlatan is proving age is just a number to him.
And definitely this will be the fixture most around the world would be eagerly watching.

{Ed077's Note - my bad then😩}

I've said before that I would bin the EL, I certainly wouldn't be trying hard to win it. 2 games versus AC Milan, then another 2 in the quarter final, then another 2 for the semi final before the final. Another potential 7 games is a lot especially in an already congested season.

In my opinion I'd rather face the toughest opponent in each round. That way we either take out a serious contender or if we lose then it's against the best side left in the competition.

In that regard AC Milan is the perfect draw. Plus it means we don't have to travel to a far flung corner of Europe.

Will be good to welcome Zlatan back as well.

{Ed077's Note - Shappy we know how the competition works, even Man Utd won it 4_5 yrs ago😜}

Fallen giant, yet our best striker by a distance.

Our manager is soley looking to get top 4 this year again so he can stay in a job. He will certainly be looking over his shoulder in the league instead of at City. And the Europa League might be a saving grace if the wheels come off in the league.

He couldn't even rest our best players in a dead rubber.

I'd agree with you Shappy if we weren't 10 point behind City I would bin it too. But we aren't in a title race and I would love to see us lift a trophy at the end of the season.

Mumbles, my view is if either Bruno or Rashford get a long term injury then finishing in the top 4 becomes seriously in doubt. I'm not sure if trying to win the European consolation cup is worth it risking it.

{Ed077's Note - Just Finishing in the top 4 but not 1st gives you CL footy for next season but no trophy. Winning the EL also gives you CL footy next season but also a trophy to go along with it. And I prefer winning real trophies over the fictional good cup that Arsenal invented.}

I enjoy seeing the team lift trophies. I get that it doesn't have the same excitement as the European Cup, but I think this team needs to win something soon.

When Jose won it, there was still a lot of work to do within the squad. I think Ole is further along now in this current squads development. We need to win a cup.

F. A Cup or Europa League, which one would the players value more in their collection?

Ed077, That's all well and good but winning cups requires a certain amount of luck. You get one game where your players don't turn up, or a key injury or a bad decision go against you and you are out.

I think we need to be careful not to spread ourselves too thinly other wise we could see the whole thing collapse, 5th in the league and out of both cups.

{Ed077's Note - and will "binning" the cups definitely guarantee you the fictional top 4 cup?😂
I agree you need an element of luck but I also believe that fortune favours the brave and you make your own luck.
Man Utd were known for winning trophies, challenging for top honours but now some of you seem to have fully embraced the cowardice that comes from the manager. How many inept semifinal displays is it going to take before you guys come to the realization that OGS doesn't have the mental toughness and bravery required to win the trophies. Even Arteta has managed to win a cup before Ole🤣🤣}

ED077,

For me its about prioritising a top4 spot over EL. I don't think Ole can get us in the top 4 and win us the EL.

He has stuck by DDG and the lindelof and Maguire partnership for too long. Its as almost as though he plays to our weaknesses.

{Ed077's Note - 5th or 6th and EL over your fictional top 4 Arsenal Cup if it was me}

shappy so if we just want top 4 then we become the new arsenal right.

{Ed077's Note - Utd once were know for going for the throat so to speak. They were known for their bravery. But now you guys have firmly turned into a bunch of cowards, just like the manager.}

ED 077 -Spot on. I got a fair bit of stick on here 4-5 weeks ago for using the term "cowardly" when we went to Anfield . in context I said Lpool contained us easily, City, Chelsea, Arsenal at home we seemed happy not to lose, they were all there for the taking .

For all Oles talk about the Utd way, how the gaffer used to play . Yorkie, Becks, coley giggsy blah blah blah he is a very timid manager - Forget about the names on the team sheet now compared to then , he doesn't play the "Utd way" he always talks about and he never will. We have seen teams way below us on paper come to OT and outplay us, like we were the underdogs . Fergie didn't always play exciting football but when we were outplayed in style and creativity it stood out because it was rare under him. whereas under Ole its happened a lot and we've got used to it or been bailed out by a lucky goal or decision.

{Ed077's Note - havent Liverpool lost all their home games in the league since the Man Uta game at Anfield?

I am starting to doubt whether OGS even knows what Utd way actually means. He always brings the Utd way at every chance he gets but his teams dont really exhibit it that very often.}

Shappy I hear you on the risk of injury and risk to top 4 front, but games like utd vs Milan are what football is all about imo. I can't wait for that game. Its exciting.

United were once known for having the best manager on the world and the best squad in the league.

Those days are long gone.

Truth is we have a 28 man squad, but only about 14 of those players can be relied on to be good enough. This isn't a normal season, and we might have to make sensible decisions rather than living under the delusion that we can win everything just because we are Manchester United.

whatis the point of top 4 if we can not get out of the goup.
