Calvert-Lewin is maybe realistic, certainly more realistic than Haaland. I’d consider Andre Silva who is coming good and has the physical presence we need through the middle. Jovic could be considered also.

While I have been far from convinced about Martial this season, I personally think it would be a mistake to spend a significant amount of our budget this summer on a striker.

Our problems are in defence. Man City have scored just one goal more than our 55 goals so far this season. However, what really has created an 11 point gap is our inability to keep goals out of our net. Conceding 32 goals to City's 19.

We need to spend on a top class CB AND a top class CDM who doesn't require another CDM to hold their hand through a match.

A tighter defence means we can play more on the front foot and will be able to create more goal scoring chances for our forwards.

So while DCL (60-70m-ish) or Andre Silva (40m), or any other top class strikers would be a great addition to our squad, they would need to come after the signing of a CB and a CDM if we are aiming to close the gap between us and City.

A top class dm who doesn't need another next to him. who in our squad are we playing next to him that isn't defensive? Matic? Fred? Mctominay? We need a passer not a defensive mid maybe there's one on loan at Notts forest? he seems to be doing very well there. For me we need to start playing vdb in midfield alongside Scott rather than treating him as Bruno cover when your never going to rest bruno. Pogba needs to go anyone who thinks he should stay is crazy.

Agree Shapps, If we get a solid CB and CDM, the whole team can play higher up the pitch.

Haaland is a dream signing.
Others to consider would be Lautaro Martinez, Andre Silva, Odsonne Edourd.
I also do like Danny Ings but not sure if he is United quality.

Ings is a class player. Would do well in our team but can be injury prone. Our priorities lie in defence and midfield.

Shappy, what makes you think we will score as many goals next term as we have done this term when Cavani has left and we have the Great Sulk up front again? It’s never a mistake to sign a good striker.

Wazza is spot on, we do need a new spine. Centre back is crucial, central midfielder who can dictate play (not a defensive midfielder) and a centre forward are what we need to win trophies. It won’t happen in the summer, we may get one of them.

I think the priorities are top class CB cm and right winger. If we could buy a top class defender a top class midfielder and say Raphinia of Leed that would be a fantastic summer.
I would keep Martial upfront and buy Ings as a replacement of Kavani to rotate with Martial. I would keep Ings fresh and sharp and a fully fit Ings is upgrade on Kavani for me. I know many would disagree but that's ok.

If Cavani does move on and Utd don’t sign a CF, it will dominate these pages throughout next season. Unless Martial produces that kind of display until the end of the season, a new striker is required. If Cavani stays, we’ll get away with it for another season, even though an attack-minded player of some ilk will be necessary.
But - and it’s a big but - whatever the shape of the squad, IF Haaland is available, we are talking about a once a decade player with his career ahead of him. We have to at least try, surely.
