Fair play to Ole and the lads. It wasn't pretty, but it was enough to to get us over the line. A few thoughts.

I don't think that it's any coincidence that our drop in form coincided with Pogba's injury nor am I surprised to see him as the match winner upon his return. We've never really seen the best of him in a United shirt (at this point I don't think we ever will), but even when playing at a fraction of his potential he's a game changer.

The fullbacks disappointed me a little tonight, although each for different reasons. Shaw seemed to recognize that there was no point playing crosses in due to us having no one in the box, but AWB continued to put balls across regardless of this. To be fair, this is perhaps a step up from earlier in his United career where he tended to do very little with the ball, but also showed a lack of intelligence which worries me a bit. Shaw was solid enough defensively and offensively, but his positioning (keeping the line) was a little suspect at times.

Finally, I noticed quite a few times our forward players were trying to pressure their defenders, but near enough every time one of their midfielders just dropped back through the center to pick up the ball unchallenged with Fred nowhere to be seen. If we're going to press, everybody needs to join in otherwise we're just wasting valuable energy.

To be fair, when all's said and done, none of this really matters now. We got the result we needed, which is more than can be said of Rangers or Spurs; both of whom were up against far weaker opposition.

Looks like the dream of third place and three semi final defeats is very much still alive for Ole.

Harsh to criticise Fred tonight. I’m not his biggest fan but he had a good game.

Lindelof also excellent tonight.

It's his last chance for a move imo jred. i'd take him in a heartbeat. Yes he will miss games but with greenwood there we could have 2 great cf options.
Harry would not be cheap. Have we got the money? and would levy be open to it? they may need to sell.
Great result tonight. Ole deserves the plaudits tonight I think he got every call spot on.
No need for more subs. We liked pretty comfortable fit the most part in the 2nd half. i'd call it a very good professional performance. Not a great 1st half but a very good second half. Once we go a goal up we are not easy to break down from open play and we sometimes can get a2nd on the counter. Very good away European tactics tonight. Good job by all. Pogbas creativity has been missed we agree on that and a big performance from lindelof who i thought was MOM.

Ken does come on here to say job well done after a good result/ performance. It’s just they are few and far between (performance wise anyway) .

I think it’s a fair post.

I’d add that Milan didn’t need to score, we needed to break them down and therefore it was dull just like every other time we need to score.

Only this time we got the goal, it wasn’t another 0-0, Milan needed to come on to us and that’s when we look good, when the opposition attacks. We then had the space to work in and we did it very well.

I have no doubt that if we’d scored first against Arsenal and Chelsea we would have gone on to win because our strength is using the space that the opposition leave in behind. We just need to get into the habit of scoring first against the big teams for results to improve.

Ken yer that was my thoughts, very professional european performance.
Agree with the subs although I can't belive people are making such a big issue about making subs 🤷‍♂️.
Pogba has been a miss I hope he stays, he will be harder to replace than people think .

jred i get the subs thing when we are losing ole is often slow to change but when your winning there is often no need to change anything and if you do it can upset the balance of the team and game.
Good 2nd half display and mostly good decisions from the manger last night.

{Ed077's Note - its a fine line I guess. You make a sub and go on to lose/draw a game its because of the sub and if you dont make a sub and lose/draw its because of not using the bench. Well if you end up winning then you took the right call I guess.}
