Bruno Fernandes asked what would constitute success? "Trophies. We can't think of anything else at this club. United is made for trophies and the whole mood is around that. "

I thought trophies were an ego trip and not seen as vital to define our wonderful progress by the great leader. Bruno better watch out with that attitude.

I'd imagine what a player constitutes success and what a manager is told by his board may well be different things entirely.

Either that or the things a manager says in a press conference might not be entirely truthful, who knows.

Whilst I don't totally believe the comments by OGS that trophy's do not matter there is a clear distinction between being a player and being a manager. I want and expect my players to only care about winning now, whether that is the game they are playing or the tournament they are in. A manager needs to have a wider plan and appreciate that it might take a few years of planning to get to the trophy winning stage and development and progress along the way can be seen as success.
However, i don't actually believe that OGS does not want to win trophys rather that he is a diplomat and states the jouney that we are on.
Fans will and always should demand success and trophys.

After the carabao semi final defeat to City Ole was upbeat "we played better in this semi final defeat than we did in last year's semi final defeat" while Bruno came out and said it wasn't good enough.

I wrote at the time that our best player is more ambitious than our manager then we have a serious problem. It's only a matter of time before Bruno hits the road. No player is bigger than the club but I believe Bruno is more important to our future than Ole is.

The sheer nonsense the man has come out with since he joined is unparalleled. But it works. Fans regurgitate his nonsense. United D. N. A, fast flowing football and now trophies are only for your ego. bull.

We will finish in the top 4, he has met the minimum requirements to keep his job, and all in all its been a difficult season so him and the team have done well.

But if he thinks he can stay in the job eeking top 4 finishes and not winning trophies, he'll be gone shortly after the fans return.

Will he have the ability to flick the switch and start seriously challenging for major honours?

Shappy that's baloney. The board are going to be happy with top 4, get some Champions League money, don't lose any sponsors. What they deem acceptable should not be what the manager and players find acceptable.

Ole played professional football and won many trophies. Has he no pride? No ambition? I'm sure when he sits down with players to talk them into joining he doesn't say "our goal is to finish top 4 and get the Glazers a nice dividend" (maybe that's why many players have turned us down)

The be all and end all at the top of any sport is trophies. We have a manager who doesn't think trophies are an important way to gauge success.

Mumbles, or we have a manager who won't put public pressure on a group of players he knows very well to win trophies that the squad might not be capable of doing.

Last season when we made it to Semi-finals he said something along the lines that semi-finals and finals are what this club are all about, that we should be winning them.

In those finals last season the players buckled under the pressure and just didn't turn up.

This year he said something different, maybe he has changed his mind, or maybe he is attempting to learn from last season's mistakes and is using the press conference to ease pressure and expectations on the players rather than raise them.

Ultimately without being a fly on the wall or in Ole's head none of us will know his actual motivations for what he says to the press.

We also don't know what he is saying privately to the players either.

I've learned to just take everything any manager says to the press with a huge pinch of salt. It's nothing more than a quote gathering exercise to sell papers and get clicks. There is nothing in the rules to say the managers have to be truthful.

Or he just didn't delivered so he said what is best for him: don't judge me from the trophies but the progress at the league.
If he was 7th in the league and won 3 trophies then he would say again what it suits him: In this club only trophies matter and we delivered and i am a winner etc.
Ole is a seller. What I don't understand is people keen to buy.

Shappy, Jose Mourinho won 2 trophies with a weaker squad.
Ole is just making excuses for his failures.

Nothing beats winning a trophy for both the players and fans.

Shappy I understand your points, but we are supposed to have a manager who knows the club inside out. He doesn't need to ramp up the pressure but he does need to show respect to the fans.

He played under Sir Alex who after winning major trophies, let the players celebrate and then it was back to business. Players said he could sniff out who hadn't the drive to go again.

He doesn't need to say "We need to wi X, Y and Z" but he shouldn't be coming out saying trophies are for ego's. It's an absolutely ludicrous thing to say.

Shappy, apologies but you made me laugh with what i assume is your serious post. Whatever Ole has said from last year's SF defeats to this year clearly is like most of your posts, pure bolloxology or Shappoxology. Last year SF defeats have turned to group stage and QF exits haven't they? So surely the clown has no idea on how to motivate his players for big games and essentially trophies.

Mumbles, I agree that it was a naïve thing to say, Ole does have a habit of saying things that come across like they are lacking context or just plain badly.

I suppose its a difficult thing to prepare for. You can do you coaching badges, you can spend time with players. All the aspects of coaching are things you pick and up and specifically get taught on the path to your qualification. Experience coaching players will enhance your ability and allow you to grow as a coach/ manager.

But who teaches you how to handle a packed room full of journalist, who teaches you how to handle a room full of people who are trying to trip you up for a quote. Backing you into corners, dragging up past quotes out of context with the intent of giving you a bad options to get that quote.

We know the journalists around United are like rabid dogs desperate for that big story. That isn't something you can prepare for. It certainly isn't something you are trained for.

United Addict, A great quote from GoT was "everything a man says before the but is horse rubbish", which is this case seems to ring true as you go on to name calling.

Your post did make me laugh out loud, clearly I have you rattled.

So what is it I said that has you so triggered?

Trigger and rattled? Haha bloody ha. Your posts on how great the clown is are my daily dose of comedy. Neither am i rattled nor is there anything in your post that would trigger me mate. The only name calling i guess that actually "triggered" you was CLOWN. Nothing your beloved has done yet has changed my mind on it. You are a fan of Ole and i respect that, I am not, simple.

You and i should correspond more, we both make each other laugh.

“we have a manager who won't put public pressure on a group of players he knows very well to win trophies that the squad might not be capable of doing. ” “ those finals last season the players buckled under the pressure and just didn't turn up. ””This year he said something different, maybe he has changed his mind, or maybe he is attempting to learn from last season's mistakes and is using the press conference to ease pressure and expectations on the players rather than raise them. ”

Really? the squad Mourinho had won two trophies, LVG one, our club has a history of winning trophies, even in adversity. 10 years after Munich we won the European cup, in 77 we won against the odds. What utter nonsense. Playing for Manchester United brings pressure.
Is Ole trying to relieve the pressure on himself, lower targets and expectation on himself.

Leadership is setting aspirations, setting a dream, taking people, your team with you on the journey. Leadership 101, yet Ole is amply demonstrating he is no leader. Far from it.

United Addict, your not trigger but feel the need to reply within minutes of it being posted.

It's funny how people keep trying to paint me as the great Ole defender, all I have ever said is give him a chance, and attempted to put some context or a different perspective when everyone throws their toys out the pram and demands the managers head every time we draw or lose a game.

I've repeatedly said I don't think he has what it takes long term, and I stand by my opinion that very little will change when Ole is sacked, just as very little changed when Moyes was sacked, or when LvG was sacked or Mourinho.

Name calling doesn't "trigger" me, be that name calling of me or of other people. All it does it show up the person calling the names as lacking respect and integrity.

If you want to act like a 6 year-old in the playground saying silly names in an attempt to degrade someone who has given far more and achieved far more for the club you love then who really looks silly from that?
