It's a big if, but if we score 6 more goals, it will be the first time we've cracked 70 since SAF left. This despite a really poor season from Martial, Rashford being hampered by injury niggles, an understandable and quite normal tapering off by Greenwood in his second season, and Pogba being constantly injured. We have the 3rd best defensive record. We're second in the league behind a City team that none of us expected to beat anyway.

So, forgive me for going against the general feeling here, but in this desultory year of playing to empty stadia, I do believe progress has been made.

And as for excitement, with no crowds football is not the same. Watching City play against Villa the other day was way more dull than our 0-0 against Leeds.

Shaw,

Good to see the other side of the coin mate, sure it will be shouted down but I don’t think things are quite as bad as some would have you believe.

I'm in the happy clappy brigade! This year is not as bad as people on here seem to think!

Shhhh! Guys we are supposed to be cowed down to agree with the vocal minority that this is the worst United side in history and we will probably be relegated next season.

Ole should also be questioned about his whereabouts between 1939-1945 and whether he has any connection with Aldof. He's probably responsible for that mess as well.

What do you expect for next season Shaw?

City are up there without their legendary scorer Aguero.
Their manager has found a way to still thump teams with a false no 9.
A fantastic play style with the players knowing their roles crystal clearly.

I hoped better from United to be honest after the arrival of Telles/ Cavani/ VDB/ Diallo.

Ole has run out of excuses to win trophies and compete at the top level.
Maybe the Europa is the start.

Getting knocked out of group stages in Champions league was a hard pill to swallow considering we were in a commanding position.

The premature exit from the CL has obviously been the biggest disappointment this season. The FA Cup exit to Leicester was frustrating too given the (perceived) favourable draw they would have been gifted in the semi too. The stats themselves don't lie - as above testifies - a lot of goals scored, and a respectable amount conceded. I think here-in lies any perceived negativity around this present Man Utd team; not in the facts and figures, but the much-aligned style of play and tactics. I think Ole deserves another window or two. He's still to an extent bound by the signings of previous managers, a few of which even those managers didn't want (Lindelif, Fred and Martial were way down the pecking order on the shopping lists handed in by Messrs Mourinho and LVG respectively) . This season's signings haven't exactly lit the side on fire either, in fact I'd say Fernandes has been the only outstanding success since Fergie stood down. So I'm happy to assume Ole hasn't quite got the players he wants right now, but the side sits reasonably within touching distance of City. in terms of facts and figures, at least. In terms of how I feel and what I see when comparing the two, it's not even a contest. But let's see. Throw another creative player into the mix, have the usual chase for a top striker, and maybe one or two others, and we might be a tad closer next year.

All good points and its clearly a matter of opinion.
For every positive stat someone produces in favour of ole the other side can produce an equally telling negative one.
Its true the only stat that matters is where you finish.
I don't argue that they way we play has not effective to a point. We are 2nd we have more points than last season. I get that. I can see that improvement.
Is it enjoyable to watch? Am I entertained more often than not? Am I on the edge of my seat? Is our play intense full of pace and excitement? Do you say a more often than great play in every game?
Ole is here for next season i have zero faith in him. I just don't get him or see what he is trying to achieve.

Ever heard of other teams? Recent years have been dominated by City and Liverpool, two of the best sides ever in the PL. Even though the latter were ultimately derailed by one serious injury I’d say in terms of effectiveness and entertainment value last season’s Liverpool was the greatest ever PL team (ok, can of worms) .

Chelsea’s new gaffa has his head screwed on. Yet. we sit in second, even though none of us can quite believe how. By hook or crook seems an apt phrase, as noone seems convinced by our team.

We were the most in-form side going into the Leeds clash (5 straight victories, bettering even City) . And we didn’t lose. C’mon, let’s give it just a little longer and see what unfolds over summer.

But Ole is clueless. Doesn't know what he doing and relegated Cardiff Spenno. Oh, and everyone else will be better next year but we will be worse, because the world is big and scary 😂.
