Should England fans start dreaming?

On a side note, Shaw and Maguire have been great for England so far.

With ball at feet I thought maguire bringing the ball out out of defense looked as good as anything else I've seen in the tournament, we did conceed two big chances but another player who gets stick at club football but is normally pretty good for England is pickford . I loved the game today two evenly matched teams and super tense.

Shaw and Grealish look like a partnership on the left.

Lets not get carried away. Germany are not a patch on their world cup winning team. Also had Muller scored it probably would have been a different result.

England dominated without creating that many chances. Philips dominated knows and pick Ford made saves when they did get through. Shaw had a great game.

Shaw had very good Ken but i am not over the moon with Maguire. I know i am in the minority but i don't think he had much to do. In a back three and with 2 holdings in front of them he was just he had no defensive responsibilities and he must only play with the ball at his feet. I don't get with the Maguire love suddenly like if we have not seen before. With this protection and with this tempo Lindelof would look like Ferdinand. Stones Hummels Ginter Rudiger all seem good in this match. It was simply this kind of match that's suits defencive players.

Maguire was very very good. The players you mention conceded 2 goals Herrera and Maguire conceded 0.

If Germany scored it would have been different no doubt, but they didn’t and we scored 2, our first knockout win against a top side in 55 years, so we should be dreaming now, this team is good enough to go and win it and Southgate got it spot on.

{Ed0666's Note - Germany are not a top side they are woeful and a pail shadow of what they once where. Loew had the personnel on the bench to make the game a real contest but chose to bring on Emre Can when he had better attacking players at his disposal. Saying that I would not consider Germany a top side and Flick really has his work cut out.

Germany are clearly not the same force they were when they won the word cup. Yet I think they are still a very good side, and they have plenty of potential to develop over the next few years.

The only thing I would say that German side was missing compared to the great German side of the past is a top level clinical striker. If Werner is your best striker then you have a problem.

They still have a spine of Neuer, Hummels, Kroos, Muller.

With players like Havertz, Gnarby, Sane, Goretzka and Kimmich coming through.

They are easily the toughest team England have played at the tournament, which is encouraging as it was also by far England's best performance.

The match against Ukraine will be a battle, they fight for every ball and they have a few gems who can do something on the night to get them a goal. They won't be easy to score against.

If England can beat them then it'll either be a grudge match against the Czech Republic who'll want revenge for the group match defeat. Or it will be a semi against Denmark who are riding on a wave of emotion after what happened with Eriksen. They will have all the neutrals on their side willing them to make the final. One big performance away from making the final for the first time since 1992. It will not be an easy match.

However, Ukraine plus one of Czech Republic or Denmark is probably as easy a run to the final as anyone could have asked for. With teams such as France, Portugal, Spain, Belgium and Italy all being on the other side of the draw and the Netherlands facing a shock exit in the first knockout round on our side of the draw.

Football could be coming home this summer, but complacency could put us in the same boat as France and Portugal.

Haha yes Germany are awful sorry that’s why we beat them, silly me.

I agree they aren’t as good as they once were but they are still a big country, we haven’t won in our last 7 games against them at Wembley so it’s a massive win, to say otherwise is superfluous.

Havertz scored the only goal in the CL final, it’s not like they are made up of players from the championship and Hungarian league.

Just because they aren’t as good as they were doesn’t make them not a good side. Their midfield is much better than ours for starters.

Not sure ed said any of that GDS. I mean his analysis is spot on, Germany are poor and have been for a while. Not sure that's controversial at all 🤷

Can be two things, good win for England. Germany aren't great.

He literally said ‘Germany are not a top side’ which I disagree with, I think they clearly are, made up of players from top clubs around Europe and they were one of the favourites to win it. They are the best team we have beaten in a knockout stage since 1966 which was my main point, to suddenly say they are awful because we beat them I can’t get on board with.

Germany that terrible side that the bookies had as 4th favourites to win the tournament on the opening day.

Yeah they must be "terrible"🙄🤦‍♂️.

When you break down the German side player by player there are some cracking players both young and old. They have a really good blend of youth and experience. let's not forget they absolutely smashed a very good Portugal side.
To say they are not a top side is absolute bo**ocks!
We always have to pick some kind of fault instead of just enjoying the performance.
The fact is Germany just couldn't live with us in the second half because we played some really good stuff.

{Ed077's Note - Germany are a really good side but Loew has become stale for them and looks to be struggling to get the players firing for them. IMO, Germany have a top 3 squad/player pool in the world right now, and the best midfield in the world (club football included). Hopefully Hansi Flick can get them firing on all cylinders.}

Yes they conceded two. But until 85 minute there were two big chances, Sterling's and Muller's and one scored but the other missed the chance. And guess what, Maguire yet again was an observer because he couldn't catch Muller and thankfully he lost the chance.
I don't think either they are a top side, Germany's teams build around a fox in the box like Gomez or Klose or (if you want) Lewandofski, that kind of player who is good in the air good scorer and make good moves. Werner is not that kind.

Maguire at no fault for the Muller chance, Sterling gave the ball away needlessly. Sometimes you need a bit of luck.

Slandering Maguire for no reason again Herrera? Sterling was at fault there you can't expect Maguire to to outpace Muller when he as 10 yards on him. Also look at Walkers action for that chance, He should have kept running back instead of committing which led Muller to be free.

How can Maguire be blamed for that Muller chance. That's ridiculous!
None of the back line could catch him, not even Kyle Walker because he (Muller) had a 5 yard head start and was already in full stride.
The hate for Maguire on here is outrageous.
