Those pesky foreigners ruining football with their diving.

Disgraceful from Sterling.

{Ed014's Note - they just showed a different angle and he does get clipped by both players as he goes between them, very soft though

On the way down before he was clipped. But England are by far the better team.

Absolute nonsense ed. VAR was brought in to stop these ridiculous decisons ruining football matches.

{Ed014's Note - no mate the camera clearly showed both defenders touch him, I’m not making it up. Rewind it and see.

Soft penalty though.

If that was at the other end everyone would be going nuts🤷‍♂️🤣.

{Ed014's Note - absolutely

Irrespective of the penalty the better side went through. Deserved win for England 3 penalty shouts one was bound to get given.

5.) 07 Jul 2021
07 Jul 2021 22:55:30
Was soft but I thought the other penalty shout should have been given. Would of preferred to do it in the 90 mins as Italy had extra time as well and started to look leggy.

07 Jul 2021 23:02:34
Best team won, as soft a penalty as will ever be given though.
The booing of the Danish anthem was rotten. I'll shout for Italy.

07 Jul 2021 23:10:28
The sterling penalty was either soft or not a pen but the kane one should have been given so it evened out in the end.

{Ed014's Note - I didn’t think it was a pen at first, looked really soft but they showed the other angle where both players touched him and thus it wasn’t a clear and obvious error so it was given. We got lucky but who cares!

8.) 07 Jul 2021
07 Jul 2021 23:15:08
I think the 1st one on Kane was a pen anyway. Oh we got a little luck. Not like it comes round that often. No one mentioning the constant face holding by the Danes. Kjaer for Maguires header was shameful.

9.) 07 Jul 2021
07 Jul 2021 23:12:33
Don’t approve of this anthem booing, how would they react if every team booed the English national anthem. V disrespectful. If there’s one team that has mastered the dark arts it’s the Italians so it could be a case of reap what u sow for Sunday. If the Italians win due to a dive and a penalty then it will be interesting to see the reaction.

10.) 07 Jul 2021
07 Jul 2021 23:19:26
Didn’t mean the team booing the anthem…I meant the fans. Just to clarify.

No doubt it was the right result.
With any luck the home crowd will help the team over the line v Italy.
Somebody needs to hide pickfords skittles and smarties him aside i thought everybody else was solid enough.

Soft penalty but england didn't time waste, didn't have the trainer on umpteen times, didn't try running the ball to the corner, didn't feign injury and were by far the better side.

13.) 08 Jul 2021
08 Jul 2021 03:45:52
Danes were unlucky, but it was just a pen. Once the ref gave it it was nailed in the VAR would not see enough to reverse. I couldn't believe the danes took off their 2 best players, their young lads up front were dangerous.

In the end the best team won. But the danes have been awesome all through euros, and not just because of Erikson sympathy vote.

Thought Kjaer looked a good player who would improve our backline.

And finally. that southgate done alright. Made some tough decisions this tourney, and he got us to the final. Can he see it through.

Penalty all day long. Should have been awarded one earlier in the game too.

RedWhiskey what planet are you on? It was a ridiculous penalty.

There was contact, but was it enough to bring him down? While the second contact was while Sterling was already falling.

I think it was a soft decision and would have been fuming if a decision like that went against us.

That said from where the Ref was standing it looked like more contact was made than there really was. So I can see why he gave it.

As for the VAR review, I don't think there was enough evidence to suggest it was a clear and obvious error. So they had no choice but to stick with the on field decision.

In the end the goal that took England though had more than a shade of luck.

That said I think England were the better team on the night and deserved to go though. 20 shots to Denmark's 6, 10 on target to Denmark's 3. England had more possession, greater passing success, three times as many dribbles. While Pickford had one real shot to save, with the other two on target shots being the free kick and a simple save that was shot straight at him. Schmeichel on the other hand made 4 or 5 really good saves that could/ should maybe have gone in. Not to mention the penalty appeal with Kane which probably was a penalty.

So no doubt England deserved to go though, but the goal that took them through was lucky.

You don’t win matches with who had more shots on target shappy or possession. The end of the day it was a shambles of a decision and if it had gone against England there would be uproar today. England have had it their own way through the tournament, playing every game bar one at home, while everyone else travels thousands of miles with no fans, England have done no travelling and had thousands of fans at every game. Then with decisions like that it just looks ominous.

{Ed014's Note - sounding a tad bitter there Stand

'There was contact, but was it enough to bring him down? '
Think that pretty much sums up just about every time a player goes down, doesn't it? For those who play football or indeed any contact semi-contact sport, even fast players, it takes quite a bit to physically be knocked on your feet. 99% of the 'fouls' are just embarrassing. But it's what we have, and until it's punished and players stop getting 'rewarded' for it, it ain't going nowhere.
As for the game, agree the better team won. Denmark ran out of steam quite early and sacrificed their best players quite early in favour of fresh legs.
Do we deserve it? On the night yes, and after losing count of how many handballs/ unfairly disallowed goals/ goals that weren't given/ unjust red cards have scuppered England over the years (answer: a lot), I don't have a problem benefitting from a soft decision for once.

19.) 08 Jul 2021
08 Jul 2021 11:12:57
I think it may not have been a penalty but I think the way Westergaard repeatedly upended or blocked Raheem Sterling was a contributory factor and it was in the referees mind when he gave the decision. It might have had a cumulative effect and so the ref. gave it. Who is arguing anyway? The best team won.

Stand, thems the breaks. When the world cup was in Russia teams had to travel in some cases far greater distances than most have had to this tournament. While Russia played all their games Moscow.

had the results gone differently then England would have had to play more games in other stadia. While arguably England's best and most complete performance during this tournament came against the Ukraine in Rome. So maybe the England team are more able to relax and play without fear if they don't have the expectation of 60k fans screaming at them.

While you are right that goals win games, England on the night performed better than Denmark, and on the balance of play deserved to go through.

As Spenno points out England have been subject to poor decisions in the past which probably cost them the game. Lampard's ghost goal the other year a clear example. While no one is pointing out that the "foul" from which Denmark scored their free kick was less of a foul than the one from which England were awarded a penalty.

So if you want to scrub goals off that were scored from "soft" decisions then you probably need to wipe off Denmark's goal as well.

I think it was a pen but it was very hard to tell. Looked like Sterling's left leg was caught.

We should have had a pen for the foul on Kane.

I'd call it evens.

Probs not a good time to say var may have chalked the Denmark free kick off . They move well within a yard of the wall when the ref turns his bk.

I thought the Sterling pen looked a bit soft at first, however, you can clearly see both defenders have contact with him, one each side. When dealing with a pace player a slight nudge can be enough. I thought it was a penalty but the Kane incident was even more a pen. It was given, move on.

Slate, 100%, said the same myself, I thought it could have been disallowed.

Maradona’s handball, lampard’s disallowed goal, Campbell’s disallowed goal for no reason, I couldn’t care less how we won, we are more than due some decisions.
