Do you consider both Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford as wingers rather than strikers?

{Ed001's Note - I decided to go with the transfermarkt listings for the best position of a player to make it easier. They were in the wingers lists.}

Transfermarkt is first place I look when we are linked with a player. Their classification of position largely comes from the last season by looks of it. Though worth going into the detailed player profile bit and stats for all seasons. For example Sancho is classed as a right winger though he’s actually played slightly more games left wing. 81 LW / 72RW.

Rashford has 139 games LW but 113 games CF.

Greenwood has 72 games RW and 63 CF.

I think we’d all likely class Rashford, Greenwood and Sancho as LW, RW, RW respectively at the moment but the exciting thing for me with the purchase of Sancho is an interchangeable attacking front 3 and some much needed strength in depth.

Can't wait to see this front line this season interchanging positions and tearing into teams.

I hope rash looks at sterling and takes something from his game. Sterling puts himself in play right in the 6 yard box and it reals rewards. Rash needs to do more of that, he has it in him, but needs to do it more to get more goals from close range.

I think it's really difficult to pigeon hole a players position in the modern game.

Playing in an area of the pitch isn't really enough to say a player is this or that.

Is a player a full back or a wing back for example?

Are they a holding midfielder or a box to box player?

Are they a an attacking midfielder, No.10 or even a false 9?

It the case of Rashford and Greenwood although they start on the wing, they are very much wide forwards in my opinion. Players who start wide but look to score goals more than create them. Which plays out in both of them scoring more goals than they get assists.

Messi is another one, is he a striker, a false 9, a No.10 or a wide forward as he has regularly played in all of those positions.

Personally I feel we are moving to a time where attacking players move more freely between positions and rotate with eachother. More like basketball with all players able to play from the left, right, up top or dropping deep. We've seen City walk the league without a recognised striker, playing offensive midfielders or wide forwards in their place and having the front line rotate.

In 10 years time the idea of a forward player having a fixed position might sound ridiculous.

Good luck Tris sorting these lists out then😂.

Your telling rashford to be more like sterling? What the actual it's like people forget he had at least a shoulder injury for 40-50% of last season and was still one of our best players all rashford needs to do is get fit and united need to learn how to ensure he doesn't keep breaking down from over work like he has the last couple of seasons.

He needs to add movement in the box from his wing to become better. He is one of my favourite players, doesn't mean he can't get better.

I understand he is injured. I hope he has been watching Sterling closely to see how often he is in a striker position in the box. He is best playing from wide but I would also like him to get more goals from in close.

{Ed001's Note - it is a nightmare. That's why I decided on picking one site's choice, as it makes it easier for a search point of view as well then. You can just get it to list all the players it thinks are strikers (for example) and pick from them. I used to try and decide for myself, but I would end up missing out players as I would forget about them when they didn't show up in a search.}
