The page has given me a good chuckle today.

Seeing all the posts about how Ole getting a new deal is "the worst possible news" or that it's "ruined their day" etc.

It's heartwarming that no one on here has any real struggles or difficulties in their lives.

No one is struggling financially, no one is having relationship issues, no one has concerns over keeping a roof over their head or food in their bellies, no one is fighting to see their children, no one has any serious health issues or close family members with serious health issues. No one has a job at risk or anything else that could impact their physical or mental health.

If the worst possible news you could hear is that a manager who was ALWAYS going to get a new deal got one. A deal that will not save him from losing his job if he fails the club's remit set out for him to achieve.

It was news we all knew was coming, and in truth all realise makes little to no difference to the running of our club over the next 6-12 months.

It really is the biggest piece of no news news story I've seen in a long time. Right up there with "tide comes in" and "sun rises", or "gravity is real".

Seriously if that has ruined your day or caused you that much distress then either you're exceptionally lucky and have no real problems in your life or you seriously need to readdress your priorities.

The hyperbole was a joy to behold 😂.

Hat Tip Shappy, good points well made.

Shappy,

Are you trying to get your word count up?

Apart from that, you make some valid points. It's the start of a new season aswell. Who knows, we might win a trophy or two this year. But we can't already write the manager off or the team without them evening starting the season yet.

As is the case, time will tell whether or not Ole is the man. Hopefully he plays a more attacking style of football this season and amazes his players better too.

Onwards and forwards. I personally can't wait for the season to start.

Shappy if your that dim you think a comment of “worst news ever” is people including personal life issues or world problems then so be it. Any comment on that as you well know will be in football term news, not in general life. Just twist it to sit on that high horse of yours.

The “worst football news” now I’m corrected, is that we have a rubbish manager who’s a bottle job in big games on a new 3 year deal. But then this club and fan base has become accustomed to mediocrity so I’m not surprised.

Shappy, you probably need to realize that for some the club is like a second home irrespective of what's going on in their personal life.

I do agree that everyone was aware that Ole is going nowhere yet but again it is the timing of it which looks like Woodward is in a rush to extend Ole's stay before moving on.

You are right it won't stop him getting the sack, but it will cost the club a lot more dosh now. Whilst the new deal might not be the worst news it is right up there with the ghastly gaffs the amateurs keep making.

Simon, I know right. Again another thing that made me chuckle.

Stand, for a club that has endured things like the Munich disaster, surely Ole getting a new deal isn't the "worst football news". Ole getting a new literally changes nothing. He was going to be our manager this season anyway. While if he fails at his remit he will be sacked.

We gave Jose a new deal in the July only to sack his in December. The same could happen to Ole. Manager contacts mean nothing in football.

LPU, the club means a huge amount to all fans. But some perspective is still needed. Football is not life or death. It's an enjoyable past time to distract us from the real rigours of daily life. It's an entertainment industry as much as a sport now.

I don't think the timing is that suspect either other than not announcing it before announcing a new signing. The club said months ago that they were working on a new deal which would be sorted out in the close season. That's what we got.

DW20, the club gave Phil Jones a new and improved long term deal when he hadn't been near the first team for 2-3 years. They gave Jose a new deal then sacked him less than 6 months later. I don't think they really worry about the few million they need to pay in settlement for sacking a manager. They have some odd approaches to what they consider fine to spend money on and what they penny pinch on.

Ultimately having to pay out a little more in severance IF they have to sack a manager is probably better than definitely causing distribution and creating unease in the dressing room by not giving Ole a new deal.

Shocking to see the standards drop.
We really have turned to Arsenal with fans being happy with top 4 finish.

TRD, I don't think anyone in is happy with just mere top four finishes. Although the owners might be.

I think fans are happy to see progress that is made clear by consistent top four finishes.

It's a reflection of the realisation of how far the club had fallen and the sheer size of the job to get back.

You're right Stand, Eriksen nearly dying on a pitch isn't the "worst football news" it's Ole getting a new deal.
Numerous clubs going bankrupt and going out of business isn't the "worst football news" it's Ole getting a new deal.
An EPL player arrested for being a paedophile isn't the "worst football news" it's Ole getting a new deal.

Step back and have a real look around. Ole might not be the greatest manager, he might not even be a good manager. Yet for the most part he has improved most aspects of the club, kept the club "competitive" in that he has consistently made it to semifinals and even a final in his two full season's and finished 3rd and 2nd in the league while arguably never having a squad better than 4th best in the league. So he overachieved.

Is it enough, of course not. But steady improvement and arguably overachievement isn't a bad thing. He was always going to have his contact extended so it shouldn't come as a shock.

While the reality is we extended Jose's contract in the July then sacked him in December. Which just goes to show that if Ole fails then he to will get the sack regardless of how long his contact is or how recently he signed it.

It's a total non-story, and the reality is if this has ruined your day then you live a very insular non eventful life.
