Do you think the manager made the right the decision to drop and then sell Lukaku when he took over?

{Ed014's Note - for him I guess as no doubt he didn’t have a clue how to improve him.

Yes mumbles.

He was quite limiting to our play. He has no doubt improved for playing in Italy, but not so sure he will help Chelsea to the title.

I seem to remember he was a flat track bully, who often failed to have an impact in the bigger games? I might not be remembering that right. But I was happy to see him traded away.

Moving Lukaku on was probably the right decision, he was a big name player on a big contract who didn't suit the way we played.

Ole's set up requires the striker to work hard off the ball, make unselfish run, press from the front, and drop back and link up play to bring in Rashford or Greenwood from the wide areas.

Lukaku would make the runs, he'd press intermittently but his first touch was horrendous, he made Fred look like Platini.

Lukaku is and always will be a penalty box striker, create chances for him close to goal and he'll bang them in. He suits Chelsea very well, they created so many chances last season only for Werner to hit the car park.

When he will have Chilwell and James whipping in crosses and Havertz and Mount slipping him though 1v1 with the keeper he'll score boat loads.

United don't create that many chances and the one we do tend to be for the wider players cutting in.

So yes it was the right decision to move Lukaku on, the issue was that we didn't replace him with a striker that suited our system.

Still stuck on Lukaku are we.

As of today we do not have a striker in Manchester United if we discount Cavani.

Lukaku scores goals and i think that is what a striker's task is. He scores more against lower teams and evidently those are the teams we have struggled against. Shaw has improved his crossing and with Bruno behind him, Lukaku would have been great here.

I thought selling Lukaku and replacing him with Martial was a dumb decision.

Not a huge fan of Ole as manger but he got it right. people seem to be all misty eyed about Lukaku - has everyone forgotten his terrible touch, how overweight he looked last 3 months of his time with us and how many chances he needed.

There was one sunday game away from home first 20 minutes he chased a ball down the left that went out for a corner he then stood hands on hips puffing like a train and the pundits picked up on it. Had we bought in Haaland the followig week you wouldn't even remember Lukaku.

Lukaku played like he had the touch of a baby elephant when playing for us as well as looking fond of the occasional Anderson Diet.

We overpaid for him and I was amazed we got the money we did for him.

He looks to have improved in a weaker league. Strongly suspect the Flat Track Bully comment will apply again. Type of player who won't score against City or Liverpool but bag 4 against Brentford and Norwich so will be lauding it near the summit of the Golden Boot comp.

It was absolutely the right thing for United to sell him at the time we did. Another name in the very long list of strikers who couldn't make it at United.

Was hoping Slopey Shoulders Martial would follow the Lukaku path out to Italy but looks like we are stuck with him!

Right move for both club and player in my opinion. Just because he appears to have improved in Italy, doesn't mean he would have done had he stayed at United.

The biggest issue with Lukaku is his replacements. Cavani, as good as he was last season was only a short term fix and Martial has been very hit or miss across the last 2 years.

He never 'looked' a Utd player. That's something Utd fans have been criticised for in recent times - believing we have a certain style, despite changing managers and overhauling the squad since the man who gave us that style stood down. So maybe he never stood a chance. Personally though I was surprised Utd looked to him. Obviously he is a Mourinho type player.
Having said all that, he looked significantly sharper playing in Italy and at the Euros. I think if we hadn't already seen him in the Prem we'd be especially curious as to how the guy might do in the Prem. I think he'll be significantly improved and definitely gives Chelsea something they needed.

I read somewhere that at Inter they picked up that he had dietary problems. They switched his diet (cutting out meat or gluten or something) and that has transformed him.

Shame on utd team for not picking up on it. Good on him for improving. He could well be a revalation for Chelsea.

Simple fact was that he wasn't for us when he was here. Martial suits our style better, when not moping about. But cavani IS number 1 choice, and why we would discount him is beyond me. He is class and still has "it".

I note the criticisms of Lukaku's first touch. While a player's first touch is undoubtedly important, it is a striker's last touch which is the crucial touch. Lukaku has scored over 250 career goals.

Never a good singing for me. Delighted when we sold him, and even more delighted Chelsea are relying on him as their main striker for next season over Haaland.
