It's a pity that Messi did not team up with Pep, would have been great for the league and English football and may have encouraged others that Real and Barcelona are not what they used to be. I have looked at both their teams and there is not many world class players left in both squads. That may change if Real get Mpbabbe and Haaland next summer.

On a different point Eds, has there ever been a thought to having a mini tournament involving the top 10 leagues? You choose your team from all players available in your country's leagues.

When you are paying a player £250,000+ a week, I think a club would be reluctant to let them go and play in a tournament like that, if it was up to clubs they wouldn’t have internationals games I suspect!

Ronaldo hasn’t been in Spain for a couple years now, Messi has left Barca, Ramos has left Madrid, I think players are already thinking the Spanish league isn’t what it used to be. But on this, I think Atletico Madrid will be the team to watch in Spain for the foreseeable future.

I think CSF is referring to a tournament similar to the recent MLS all star 11 Vs Liga MX all star 11 match.

But with all of the domestic European leagues facing off against eachother with an all star 11 from each league.

Ultimately I can't see why the powerful European clubs would want to release their players to play extra games for which they don't receive any financial gain.

{Ed002's Note - Those sorts of games have happened very occasionally over the years. England have played a few times against a Rest of the World XI and there have been the Soccer Aid games.}

When I was a lad a new kid moved into the street. He was incredible at football and played for a premier league youth team. He wasn't allowed to play footy down the park with the rest of us muggles in case someone broke his ankle. I imagine this is a similar kind of thing. Does Ole really want to hear that Ronaldo is out for the season after being hacked down by Ollie Murs in a charity game?

Spenno, when I lived on London I used to know a few of the Crystal Palace lads, a certain Welsh international used to get involved in a few of the five a side games I used to play in. While a future United player used to turn up and watch but never played any games, would have a kick about with us before or afterwards though.

Professional footballers on the main have clauses in their contacts that stop them from certain sports or playing in anything that isn't sanctioned by the club. However, most bend/ break these rules from time to time.
