I’d still be there so I wouldn’t really be bothered, there is a waiting list for season tickets also so guessing a lot of regulars are going too.

Another way of looking at it, why are there no day trippers on the days city are at home?

{Ed014's Note - guys from all over the country have season tickets at Old Trafford, I personally know quite a few that do. None from Manchester.

Because it’s just Manchester fans that go to city games. They haven’t had a wealth of plastics jump on the bandwagon yet.

GDS2, Pep has won more trophies in 1 calender week than Ole has in a decade of management.

Plastics? A tad unnecessary Ed014? Provocative too.

{Ed014's Note - well what are they then, glory hunters. What fluffy term would you rather I use out of interest.

Did you join in with calling Chelsea fans plastics or was it too provocative? ?‍♂️

100 years of history.
I'd rather compare trophy count than fan count over last 10 years if I was supporting city.
Its hard to believe that hard core united supporters have to resort to fan count to feel superior when they have been superior where it counts.
They have the fastest growing fan base worldwide but from a tiny base on a global scale.
We will be back winning titles soon enough but until then I'll admire what they are achieving and have achieved over last 10 years. We need to catch and pass them out on the field.

Ed014, ‘fluffy term’, ‘Chelsea’? If you’re looking for a fight you can have it with yourself. Crashed your car or something? ?.

{Ed014's Note - your the one with their knickers in a twist fella, you need to go have a chat with yourself. ?‍♂️

My OP was just following on from what their own manager said, on a united forum where I assumed people were all like minded and would have a laugh about their result rather than an Ed deciding to call fans plastics.

I’m from Manchester and go to the games so maybe i’m a real fan in your eyes Ed, but I know a lot of fans on here that will be quite offended by you thinking fans have to be from Manchester or they are glory hunters and plastics, a little odd in my opinion to call people that but not surprising.

I think if we went on to the chelsea fan site and called them plastics it would be quite provocative and we would probably get banned.

{Ed014's Note - don’t you get your knickers in a twist again too and don’t be ridiculous.

Truth really hurts some of you precious little fellas.

Where you come from is irrelevant to being a plastic or a glory hunter which I’m certain you know.

Plastics? Gloryhunters? Not too much glory in the last few years is there so hardly think those apply to United. We have been selling out Old Trafford for the vast majority of matches that I've seen since my shameless plastic non-local glory-hunting started in 78. (Born in Oldham so naturally I am only allowed to be a Latics fan I assume? )

United and Liverpool have both had appreciably more fans than other clubs. It has been like that in England for a very very long time. Don't see it changing anytime soon. Liverpool didn't win the league for 30 years but still got sell out crowds. Same with United for the 26 years before winning it in 93.

Some clubs are just bigger than others, just like some have owners with deeper pockets. It is what it is.

Just because United or anyone else for that matter have 'day-trippers' why is that a bad thing?

United's global popularity stems from the flair of the teams produced pre and post Munich. Munich itself being an obvious aspect that no other club bar Torino suffered from and it clearly longer term had an impact on expansion of our fanbase (Torino's loss, though equally as tragic, was in a slightly different time coming only a few years after the war) . Liverpool were dominant in the late 70s and early 80s when the popularity of football worldwide really bloomed.

The things that happened to either club which culminated in the popularity could have happened to any club.

We take the micky out of City's fans because they are, and always will be in my view, an appreciably smaller club than United. Just as Liverpool will always be bigger than Everton. Both Everton and City have always had healthy attendances but never as big as their crosstown neighbours hence, football being tribal as it is, our tribe will always be bigger than theirs! I don't give a monkeys whether its comprised of day-trippers from London or Timbuktu for that matter.

{Ed014's Note - Jesus Christ ?‍♂️

@mumbles, when did Pep win 4 trophies in a calendar week?

GDS2, Ole is not fit to lace Pep's boots.
He won the League without a striker.

What has Ole won at United?

{Ed014's Note - a big fat contract?

Halesini,

What you said makes total sense to me and well done from trying to help the Ed understand where the banter comes from.

TRD,

Not sure why you aimed that at me, who said anything about Ole?

Ed, You said day trippers so you clearly meant to have a dig at people not from Manchester that support United. I don’t have to explain why I support the club and nobody else does either, if they love the club that’s up to them and everyone posting on here that does deserves respect, especially from the Ed’s.

About 4 generations of my family supported united and maybe more than that to be honest, I didn’t really have a choice, I’m certainly not a glory hunter or a plastic and don’t really associate with them terms anyway, people support who they want, you’d think an Ed of a site with people on from all sorts of backgrounds would respect that.

{Ed014's Note - OMG what planet are you on, I’ve never questioned your support of United, you spoke of City not filling their ground.

I stated the likely don’t have day trippers and glory hunters plastics etc.

The reason why they most likely don’t fill their ground.

Every successful club has the kind of people I’m talking about, weren’t there before the club were winning things, like us, like you, like Chelsea.

Not so much Liverpool and City.

You really need to stop being so precious and chatting such bollox and trying to change this into something it’s not ffs!

Many moons ago I had Sky tv. When Tevez was at City he refused to go on as a sub, midweek game under Mancini if I recall, TV cameras made a huge deal about it zooming in on the bench etc etc.

After the game the first 4 fans Sky grabbed to ask about it were from Ipswich, London, Bedford and Watford if I recall. Next morning on ITV breakfast same deal different fans, not one from Manchester.

2 of my ex schoolmates were scrabbling around trying to get tickets for Coventry city in play off finals 2 seasons ago. average attendance 9000 - 6000 season before when they couldn't play home games in Coventry - the club asked for 29,0000 tickets for the final sold them all. It happens. They got promoted and what are the crowds now, last week v Middlesboro 12000.

Anyone travelling from Derry Airport on a Saturday morning via Ryanair will be familiar with the chaos in that tiny airport .2 flights to Livepool Manchester taking off 20 minutes apart and 1 to Stansted 30 mins later 75% full (if not more) of United/ Lpool/ Chelsea fans has been that way for 25 years to my knowledge ( Ryanair cancelled those routes now) . it happens.
