Reflection. There are four competitions available realistically to win. As we sit here, we are out of one, we have had a disastrous start in another, one has not started and let's be honest our league campaign doesn't look likely to succeed. The same issues are appearing that were there in previous seasons, giving us no reason under present direction, to have confidence it will dramatically change.

Stick or twist, do the club risk another awful season or see what Chelsea did?

Manchester United profess and aspire to be a major European superpower. The actions they take define that. Would Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, PSG, Barcelona (if they weren't in such a mess financially), Chelsea, Liverpool or City, really just amble to the end of the season in hope it would be ok? Chelsea focus is winning trophies, look what they did last season, look what Liverpool did with club legend Dalglish.

We can argue about double pivots at home against Villa, but the club should have clear decisive decision making processes and should be asking big questions right now.

We will know soon enough, our fixtures between now and xmas are brutal, especially if we carry on as we are.

{Ed014's Note - to Villa?

This season could be easily salvaged with a change of manager. I honestly hope the cogs are starting to turn in regards to him leaving.

All this talk about double pivots is nonsense. We play a 2 man midfield. Ahead of them are 4 very attacking players. It is getting very old everyone think Ole's formation is negative.

What was poor today was the teams energy and attitude. If anyone want to poke at ole then why not choose that. Because that today was not good.

I am by no means part of the Ole camp but today and wednesday have to be down to the players themselves and decision making, today Greenwood took a shot when other players was in better positions every time, Bruno took a pen against the normal way he does and fired it so high it will come back down in december with snow on it.

Against Ole now, we have bought Sancho, play him on the left not Pogba and drop the 2 defensive mids and put Pogba in the middle at the very least we should be more attacking at home.

Dodgy

You picked the absolutely least important point out, I couldn’t care about 2 man midfield tonight.

I care about Manchester United, the situation and direction under someone, who no one can deny, is bringing total inconsistency.

If the team energy and attitude is wrong, it is something most said went against Mourinho and that it indicated he had lost the dressing room.

Given what you said, do you now think Ole has lost the dressing room?

Red Man that's what i thought today. He is starting to lose the dressing room, the belief. He is consistent crying for refferes decisions and he is negative in the press.

Greenwood today played like he plays alone and that's his answer (I think) to Ronaldo playing alone in previous matches. Players have no fear of Ole, they do what they want.

So Bruno scores his pen. Pogba scores his simple header. We win and .

Patrick, don't bother it doesn't suit the agenda.

Both Greenwood had 8 shots today, Pogba and Bruno had 6 each.

The whole Villa side managed 7. Compared to United having 28, four times as many.

Now several of those shots were poor decisions and there was a better passing option with a player in a better position. Yet still the result is the same the PLAYERS made poor choices when in good positions and they were poor at finishing, with only 4 of the 28 shots on target.

55 shots over two games with no goals and only 10 shots on target.

While the performances haven't been great if we were a little more clinical in the final third then we would have won both games. We had more than enough chances.

Solskjaer is responsible for the tactics and picking the team, but he can't pass or shoot for the players. Once they cross that white line and enter the pitch it is down to them to take responsibility for their own performances. The system and the tactics gave them enough chances to win the games.

{Ed014's Note - you tell Patrick not to bother and then write that. No offence mate but that is just a pile of utter bollox!

The level of excuses hit a new low. We lost a game with 1.90-1.60 expected goals. At the same time i think only the penalty is around 0.60. So take away the penalty, we created chances for around 1.30 goals. Not so good I would say.

It’s the usual drivel that comes out of Shappy…. a stat to back up what he wants…. Forget stats it’s been crap all season and last and getting no better, so your now blaming the players and still defending Ole. Yet when others blame players you pop up with some stupid stats to defend them, you just bend to what way the winds blowing and like sound of your own voice I’m afraid.

Red man, I read about double pivot also further down. Not just your post.

No I don't think he's lost the dressing room. I think it was a very flat performance lacking energy.

It is still early I the season, but agree with he posts about the UCL group, the pressure is growing on that game - could see a tail spin if the current trend continues.

Long season and this team is a window or 2 from winning the league but will be up there. I can’t see anyone running away from it.

We will be fine in cl and expect us to make a good run in the knock out stages. Until then we will have our moments where we look great and days like today where we shat the bed.

The concern is Nothing changes we don’t have many days when we look great but lots when we look awful, in fact we have looked awful all this season, let’s not bring last season into the equation, before someone pipes up with Leeds, they played right into our hands and did same last year!
4 years down the line no one hand on heart can say what our style of play is apart from fingers crossed individual brilliance, it’s not just Ole we have terrible coaches, they all need to go, Ole is a nice guy but the bigger players he signs the shorter his tenure will get and it will have nothing to do with top 4 as one individual keeps banging on about.
