The biggest thing I've taken away from this season is that the midfield duo are passengers whenever the team is attacking.

When United have possession it's almost like the midfield is holding shape in anticipation of defending. To the point that we often have a clear bank of midfielders and central defenders holding shape in the centre.

Top teams have midfields that can dominate possession and impose the direction of play. We have the opposite: a passive midfield whose job is geared toward when they don't have the ball.

I don't see how this squad can ever accomplish anything if the heart of the team is anonymous in possession. I wonder how long Ronaldo and Varane will be happy playing for a side whose goal is a top 4 finish, rather than competing for titles?

Agreed, the inability to have ball players in the midfield is holding this team back.

Mctominay spends too much time hiding from the ball and is much more suited to doing bleep tests than passing.

I don't think I've seen much worse players than Fred on the ball in my time watching football.

My favourite Fred moment was when his miscontrolled the ball, it bobbled around under his feet and then he tried to play a simple pass across midfieled but it went out for a throw in.

He had a big smile on his face and nice little chuckle. That's because the mood in the dressing room is so good.

Did you notice any of his good pieces of play mumbles? There were plenty today, much better performance from Fred. McT looked very rusty, he should have come off earlier.

Dodgy, the bar is so low with Fred, I wouldn't say he done anything the other 40 midfielders across the prem will do this weekend.
