Well done to the manager, a very well organised performance, creative and very much playing to their individual strengths all together as a team unit. On the other hand the other manager, the one who looks after my team Molde United, sent out 11 individuals just to go and play without any obvious organisation or coaching. Anyone saying we deserved to win is deluded and clearly a member of a relatively new cult, the Ole Cult.

Last night was a robbery. Who wasn't happy to see Ronaldo score but do not lecture us on here about Mourinho and abject European performances against Sevilla, when the Norwegian fraud set the team up last night lacking any cohesion at all. Villarreal could have been 5 up at half time, it was one of the most embarrassing performances in a European tie I have seen at OT.

I feel for DVB, encouraged to join us and treated horribly by an amateur

We won, great I am delighted but for goodness sake there was no greater example of Oleball than that, send the players out to try to win with a piece of magic or two from individuals. Awful to watch for 94 of the 95 minutes. If the club are happy with that then they are becoming an embarrassment.

Red Man, I jumped in joy after the win.
But, the performance was as terrible as it can get. Players had no positional sense. I even feel sorry for Villareal as they were the much better team.

If our players are well coached, we would be obliterating teams with the quality of attacking players we've got.

For 90 minutes I was thinking why did I bother getting soaked to come and watch this, probably a good game to watch for the neutral on TV, TBF how Villareal was not 2 or 3 up at halftime is anybodies guess, but DeGea had a great game MOM by a country mile
TBH I thought we moved the ball much quicker then usual, Dalot adds to that from Right Back but his defending was shocking but then again even Varane was having the wobbles! Because they were passing and coming through our midfield like a steam train, energy of Cavani and ball retention and brain of Matic made so much difference although for some reason it took about 15 mins to get them on as subs
Not sure what Pogba was doing… least he had a new hair do which was his highlight of the night
Ronaldo was Ronaldo, that’s why you have him on the pitch big players big games, same as Messi night before done absolutely nothing all game, but can score a goal when needed.
It’s still a mystery though why so many talented players can be on the pitch and are made to look ordinary by a mid table team, oh wait a minute it might be organisation, they were a team we just bunch of individuals with no cohesion, no real game plan, limited tactical knowledge, OK we won… somehow, so let’s move on to the next game, we know it will be more of the same and we can all be sure we won’t win Champs league or premier with this set up……

Another miracle apart from winning though, Ole broke up the McFred partnership so that’s something I guess! midfield still did not work, but did speed play up a bit.

Couldn’t agree more. A United victory has never left me feeling so empty. That’s not United. Not football. Not enjoyable. You have to wonder what’s the point. It’s not a sustainable approach. He’ll win nothing again.

Red Man, even when Ronaldo scored at the end I really didn't feel happy/ excited looking at that performance.

Really worried if the club decide to stick with Ole as probably this and the next few years are really our best opportunity to win some trophies with the team we currently have.

Guess what Red Man, they weren’t. Plenty of issues in that performance, but I wouldn’t say they played as individuals last night. Once we got the goal we were the better side.

What would donny have done yesterday? A bizarre point to raise, he’s not been good enough when he’s played at all. Matic came on and did well again, Lingard set up the goal and almost scored too. What was wrong with that? Yes you’ll come back and highlight lack of games or whatever, but he’s played a lot more football than people would care to admit and he’s not been great.

Red man, I will also add that the club clearly are happy with Ole. That’s where your frustration should lie in my opinion. I don’t think OGS sets us up to play crap, or to lose games etc. He wants to win and see good football as much as us. It’s the men above who continue to employ him. Even after Ole eventually goes, do you trust them to make the right choices to replace him and bring in some top quality? You wait and see us end up with Southgate.

what gets me is he plays mctominay but then sits pogba along side him in cdm.

then to top it off he brings on matic and fred when we needed goals, takes off greenwood and sancho, we were very lucky and the goal saved ole yet again.

but now we have 2 months of very hard fixtures, which imo will determine our season

the build up play is slow again, no urgency, you can blame the players for it but the manager is the one setting them up, telling them how he wants them to play.

again if it wasnt for de gea we would and should have been 4 or 5 down as funny as that is they had clear chances to score a few goals.

dalot is poor. he let Williams leave and opted to keep dalot,

Bolger, McTominay was the sole DM last night, and it was an issue. Pogba was playing much higher up the pitch. The main issue was there was no connection between defense and attack, meaning long balls played over the midfield. Pau Torres going on a run and skipping past McTominay was disturbing. Matic entered and it all changed, there was suddenly that link. We’ve all been calling for him to stop the two holding midfielders system, but last night showed why he does it. Dalot didn’t help either.

Caolan_2, the board making the wrong choices shouldn't be used as an excuse to keep Ole in the job.

And it's clear what Ole thinks and wants with the way he sets up his team and how they perform on the pitch.

Caolin

I have made my frustration with the club decision makers very clear on here over many years. I was also one who flagged the problem with the owners as soon as the method of buying the club was clear back in 2003 or whenever it was, because I understood it and what it meant. I would change owners instantly, sack Woodward, Arnold and Co. Owner and board change could take years and it’s very difficult to do much as we have seen. The United support are satiated with the purchase of a player and forget how much money has been taken out of the club plus how much will continue to be.
At least if we can challenge for the top honours, play entertaining, winning football in the meantime it would be less galling. Yet we have Ole, the football apart from occasion flashes is worse than Mourinho or lVG, it’s back to Sexton territory. The owners are tough to shift but at least give us a decent manager and not the Norwegian fraud. You will also see my post on an answer where I don’t trust the decision makers to get it right even then. They all seem too blinded by sentiment.

Not lucky enough to watch the game but the pundits on radio / Sly Sports were calling it a dire performance. Sounds like DDG made at least 4-5 great saves to keep us in it.
OK the performances still aren't there but with a 3/ 4 changed backline and a victory over a side very much seen as a banana skin (excellent away form and beat us in the Mickey Mouse European cup a few months ago) this is a huge result. At least we're not Barcelona . 2 defeats and bottom, what a comedown.

I bet your one of those people red man who moans when he plays two more defensive minded midfielders. Last night he picked the front six most fans have been looking forward to seeing and guess what, midfield got battered . Say what you want about Fred and matic if they start alongside mctom last night we are putting in a much better performance and Villarreal aren’t creating half as many chances!

Yes redman saw the post below just after I sent mine. I agree completely on that.

The football in my eyes isn’t as bad as mourinho’s or Van gaals. Certain sections of the stadium didn’t see a goal at their end in over 3 months under LVG.

I don’t think ole is going to take us much further, but he’s leaving the squad in a much better shape than when he found it.

30 Sep 2021 12:00:19
You certainly sound delighted with the win Red Man.

Maybe it was being there last night but for anyone to say they didn’t even feel excited when that goal went in I don’t know if football is for you. You’ll be saying you didn’t celebrate in 99 next because the performance was terrible and we should have lost.

Great result against a team we have never beaten after another terrible performance. Hopefully Cavani coming into the side can help us attack more from the front and press higher up with more intensity.

This site should be about how we can improve things, what would you all do if you were the manager? Who would you have picked last night? Or would you have picked the same players with a different style? Can you play Ronaldo in a pressing high intensity style or does he get left out?

Here’s hoping that result gives us a kick up the arse and a bit of momentum, Ole often goes on runs of form and then runs of defeats, if last night was the start of a good run of results then that would be great. The performances certainly need to pick up as last night’s performance was not sustainable in the long term obviously.

Spot in chris1. At this point it is becoming a moaning site. I enjoyed the game yesterday, good win in tough circumstances. Team showed good spirit, good subs, crowd sounded electric.

Chris GDS

If you look on live chat I said pre game it was an attacking selection but risky to suddenly change given the defensive changes as well, plus could Ole organise them as a team. He obviously cannot organise as a team, it is clear.

Maybe you want to look up the very famous interview with a real manager, the great SAF after Aberdeen won a cup final.

Now some accept the dreadful awful football on show last night, because it’s Ole. If that had been the previous managers, who actually won silverware, you would have been far worse than the critique I have given this morning.

19.) 30 Sep 2021
30 Sep 2021 12:34:02
Our expectations have become so low that now any team that gives us a game is now being seen as a very good and tough opposition to hide Ole's shortcomings.

20.) 30 Sep 2021
30 Sep 2021 13:31:58
Don’t think anyone is accepting the performance last night
‘Because it’s Ole’, I think they are accepting it because we won an important game with a last minute winner.

21.) 30 Sep 2021
30 Sep 2021 13:49:41
Dodgy, you sure you were at OT? It was anything but electric. I saw fans yawning, the camera showed them how bored they were. When the Villareal goal went in, it was silence as if they knew it was coming.

22.) 30 Sep 2021
30 Sep 2021 14:29:19
LPU, we start every game as the underdogs now. No matter what team it is. Saw the Liverpool game last night and it was something else. Compare that to this dross and i feel sorry for the once great Man Utd. How far have we fallen that a Villareal team came to OT and should have battered us in all fairness.

23.) 30 Sep 2021
30 Sep 2021 16:48:26
Should have but didn’t, the stats are actually fairly even, on Saturday we had 27 shots so we should have battered villa but we didn’t, which would you prefer?

The crowd was electric dodgy, walking away from the stadium I could still hear viva Ronaldo from 100 metres down the road, everyone was buzzing. UA, obviously the crowd weren’t going mad when the opposition scored, we were disappointed, not sure you should just a crowd on how they react to the opposition scoring a goal or you just sound like you’re shoehorning an example in to prove a point.
