Someone on here yesterday, can't remember who said watch the club give new deals to carrick, McKenna etc after phelan. Well according to the mail that's what's about to happen. Are we seriously that stupid, mikes deal wasn't up until the end of the season, same for those two so why give them new deals now. Let the season play out and if it goes pear shaped then let them go. Now we will have to pay off all 4 if they are sacked, it's looking like we are doubling down on our decision to keep ole, board trying to prove they were right rather than monitoring the situation and adjusting as we go. Ed002 has called the decision makers amateurs I can think of some other stronger words that fit them better.

Further proof that the club at least currently are backing the manager.

I suppose they extended Ole's deal in the summer and now they need to extend his backroom staff's deals as well. What is surprising is that Phelan appears to have been a bigger priority than Carrick and McKenna. Or maybe his deal was just easier to sort.

Either way this doesn't appear to be the actions of a club that think they may be looking for a new manager some time soon.

I can't see Ole going before Christmas, mostly likely not until after the close of the January transfer window. They won't want to risk having to dip into the transfer market for a new manager so soon.

My view is the same, they will likely wait until top 4 is impossible, unless things really badly go off the rails beforehand.

I don't know what the point is of people complaining about these new deals. What do you expect? Ole is our manager. Do you really think that they should undermine him by refusing to give contracts to the background team of his choosing. Yes I agree Ole isn't good enough to be our manager, but, as much as I enjoy this forum, such posts really border on ridiculous.

Contracts only mean how much we pay them off when the inevitable happens. Considering we are paying several hundred grand a week for certain players to warm a bench, I wouldn't worry too much about the costs.
Didnt sacking Jose cost us £20million, so I suspect paying off Ole and his team will be chicken feed in comparison.

It was 20 Million and the cost of his 3 x buses good :)

Plus I would think there is get out clauses or figures for pay offs involved, just because people hear the word contract it really don’t mean nothing at all, it certainly won’t make the difference on if Ole goes or not or even when, and a bit pointless even saying it would, unless someone on here as read that contract it’s pointless to speculate and really is just a drop in the ocean.

So honestly makes not one bit of difference to the situation, don’t mean they or anyone is staying or going.

Extending contracts to coaching staff is not something to indicate the direction of the club. It would not be a massive payoff in the grand scheme of things, but would be more telling and damaging if the club didn’t deal with the contractual situation at the expected moment for the coaches. Failing to deal with it at an expected time, would flag very widely that Ole was a goner. So I am not surprised at all at the coaches extension on contracts. There may even be clauses on payoff in them as standard, we don’t know. However, they are not an indicator in my book as to what will happen to the manager, even if Shappy claims they are. I am not getting over excited by them either way.

How big of an extension did Jose sign before being fired?

Indication of nothing.

Red Man, I'm certainly not excited by it. I think it probably is time for a change.

I backed Ole as I felt he was just about hitting par with the squad at his disposal and in the context of the league and the club's he was up against.

Yet this summer we have added 3 world class players in Ronaldo, Varane and Sancho. While we are still struggling with performances. That is an indication that Ole has peaked. He has reached as far as he can and he doesn't have the ability to lift this team to what it is capable of. No shame in that, I'm sure Ole is trying his best, but his best as a manager just isn't good enough for where we want to be.

He's had 10 games this season, 7 league games, 2 UCL and a league cup game. 10 games into a season we should be seeing signs of improvement at least equal to the level of quality that came into the team this summer. We aren't.

Personally I'd like to see this dealt with asap. I don't want to see this drag on and on. In an ideal world Ole would have been relieved of his duties on Sunday, then we could have hired the new manager during the international break ready for the tough games ahead. At the very least new manager bounce might win us the key important games against our main rivals coming up.

But to do that the club would need to be competent, they would need to be forward thinking and planning. They'd need to know which managers they would like to replace Ole with and have some sort of a plan.

They don't, they will give his backroom staff new contracts thus increasing any settlement cost if they do need to sack the manager. They will then trundle on until UCL qualification is impossible and they can reduce his and his staffs payoff by 50%. Then they will look around at that time to see who's going cheap/ free to hire and then go after the biggest name currently unemployed.

I suppose the savings grace is England did well at the Euro's and Southgate wasn't sacked, otherwise it'd be him I'd expect they'd go for.

2 world class no way even you can stretch Sancho into world class bracket Shappy.

{Ed025's Note - im with you jack, at least at the minute..

You also have no idea that they don’t have managers already on a short list or even closer, your speculating they don’t that’s all.

Only 2 world class signings hardly 3…. no way even you can say Sancho is world class on the back of good performances for Dortmund!

Back room staff new contracts does not matter one way or other, you have no idea what’s wrote in those contracts, it might only say whilst Ole in your manager, it could say absolutely anything. You have no idea.

Shappy

For once I don’t disagree with much of that. Shock, horror all round.

My worry is Southgate as well.

In the middle of the run of games we have is Watford, who have just appointed Ranieri, a league winning coach. That’s Watford, who have attracted a coach of a good standard, better than us. Ok, he wouldn’t be right for us, but it shows how a club can be decisive and attract a decent coach/ manager. Talking about dead cat bounce, we need to watch that game against Watford, because I suspect we are over confident expecting to win.

Contracts at United are something we know nothing about. Some may have clauses about leaving before the final date, so no point in getting wound up about them. Yes greater settlement costs is likely, but the message to all if they hadn’t renewed could have made things very difficult indeed. So they did them.

The club seem to appear to support the manager to the hilt, however, we all thought that about the last three managers. Anyone with an idea about football, will realise the manager talks absolute rubbish at press conferences and is not bonding the team as a team after 3 years. They bought Ron and Varane, the board etc expect improvement, they will not want to hear the top players are less than impressed with the standard of management. If that is the case, it is not so secure as Ole thinks it is. Toying with selection is one thing for SAF after 12 of his 13 titles, totally something else when Ole is tinkering and not winning.

We have to endure more of this when as you say he should have been gone Sunday morning.

Over the past 3 seasons Sancho has been in the top 5 every season across Europe's top 5 leagues for combined goals and assists.

Which means at most only 4 players across the 5 best leagues in Europe have directly contributed more goal contributions than him in any of the past three seasons.

So to say he hasn't been performing at a world class level would mean you'd believe there are only at most 4 world class forward players in Europe's top 5 leagues.
