So the club confirm that Varane is out for "a few weeks" with a muscle injury.

That means Leicester, Atalanta, Liverpool and Spurs he'll almost certainly miss. While he could either be out or have to make his come back in the second game against Atalanta or against City.

Less than ideal and injured playing for France in what is a glorified "friendly" tournament.

When everyone is pushing for more and more games what is the point of the "Nations cup"?

Big squad no point moaning injuries happen. Far from ideal timing but that's life.

We were quite fortunate with injuries last season when other teams were not.

Mendi would be the alternative youth choice after Bailly, Victor and Jones. Or Shaw or Bissaka moving into back 2 or 3.
