Jesse Lingard, should he be getting more minutes.

He has 2 goals in 117 minutes of football for us this season.

Which means he has the best goals per minute ratio in the squad.

He had been bright and positive when he had played. It's easy to argue that so far he has played better than Sancho.

He had a great season last season with West Ham as well.

So does Jesse deserve more game time and if so which position should he be playing in?

That's for Ole to decide. He's the one who promised him more playing time if he stayed.

He's also cost a goal in that time too and was terrible against West Ham in the league cup. Not a good enough player, still can't believe he was credited with an assist for Ronaldo, really struggle to believe Jessie failing to control the ball while slipping is an intended pass.

Iv been his harshest critic in the past. I think he's done well off the bench But he shouldn't be starting for us. You don't spend £70 million on winger and bench him because a mediocre player has a better goal per minute ratio.

He could be part of the squad as a player coming off the bench but he's not and has never been good enough to start.

He suits the let's be selfish and try to score the goal alone and pull something out of nothing.
A perfect Ole player. One moment magic strategy player.

It's getting really stale keep repeating the same old same old but this is really another problem created by Solksjaer.

Every member of the squad should have a defined role. To my mind there should be two players share each position and they rotate in and out without any real loss of quality. The players should all have a complete understanding of their role within the team and complete understanding of how to play their position within the system; it should be seamless.

Looking at Lingard through this lens, what is he in the squad to do? What's his role? I bet he doesn't even know himself what he is doing at Man Utd anymore.

With Utd's squad it's not hard; Ronaldo/ Cavani, Rashford/ Pogba, Sancho/ Greenwood, DvB/ Fred, McTominay/ Matic, Dalot/ AWB, Varane/ Lindelof, Maguire/ Bailly, Bruno/ Lingard? and then the youngsters should be played as and when it is prudent or injuries require cover, OR they are looking better than the regular first teamers.

Lingard is also one of these players where we don't know whether there is any point in keeping them because they hardly ever play so they can't develop any consistency and they can't be rated.

So it's impossible to answer your question Shappy. I think like DVB, he should be given a run of games and then we know if he's worth keeping and playing. There's only any point in him being at Utd if he's good enough and if he's good enough then he should be getting games.

MancMan Lingard is 28 going on 29 in Dec, I really do not think we need to be giving him games to see if he is good enough, I would say we already know he is not good enough for Utd.

Not saying he is totally useless, he could still have a good career, just not at the top level, not at Utd. Too weak in possession imo, like taking candy from a child.

Now if we could give DvB a decent run of games, say 5-6 at least, then we maybe able to assess his abilities and his effectiveness for Utd but Fred seems to be keeping him out of any chance of playing. Not sure what Fred has got on Ole but it must be good!

LLV,

Think you need to watch that goal again, he deliberately passes to Ronaldo before being tripped by the defender, it was a fantastic and important assist.

We need 11 Jesse's on the pitch.

I disagree GDS, I do not believe for a second it was intentional.

Also Mancman, wasn't Jesse outpriced out of a move? Hardly Ole's fault if the players he is willing to sell are not sold by the board because they believe a squad player in the last year of his contract is worth two Ronaldos.

He should be put with reserves along with pogba unless they sign a contract. Simple as that for me. Do a bastion on them both. No sign no play no train no nothing.

Don't worry Grim you are and look like a bunch of Jessie's this season!
Give DVB a chance and send Fred back where he came from :)

Jrred, we all love a good come back and I think its worth a look to see if Lingard can play for Utd like he did for West Ham.

There's always been a player in there and it may just have clicked with him. i'd like to give him another chance.

Who would play Jesse over Bruno? Hence he doesn’t ‘deserve’ more time. He plays in a position he has competition that is much better than him.

Lingard offers something different to Bruno and Bruno can't plsy every minute of every game.

All i'm saying is that he earned another chance with the way he played for West Ham. Its the job of the manager to find that player and that can't be done while he's sitting on the bench.

It may be that the games he played at West Ham were a false dawn, probably!

I thought Solksjaer encouraged him tbat he had a future at Utd. I tbink if he'd told him he wasn't in ghis plans tben he would have moved.

I think Lingard wants to play so he has a chance of making the England squad.

How does Fred get games for Brazil as well as us?
What are the coaches seeing honestly?

Confused and bewildering strategy. Ole said “We want to prolong his contract, we see him as an important player for us. It's up to him and maybe up to me to give him more playing time because he deserves to. Hopefully, we can get a deal sorted for Jesse because we really rate him. ”

Can someone tell me what the idiot of a manager is doing? We buy Pellestri, Amad and Sancho for well over £100m, have Bruno and Pogba who play in a particular way, have youth like Mejbri not getting a chance, yet the managerial dunce is pushing Jesse to sign a new deal.

Looks to me like Ole can’t let go, likes Lingards DNA. If I were Lingard I would leave, I would look at how DvB has been treated, it appears he was lied to so why would you trust this manager if you sign a new contract?

The thing is Ole will likely feel for Jesse and want to persuade him to sign, so rather than have a strategic plan, could now give him playing time. It’s so amateur it’s frightening.

Eric79, probably they like the Fred that's always smiling and enjoying his own bad performances ?.

It's time Brazil appoint Ole as the manager and it would be a great fit for the duo. All smiles and fun no matter what ?.

Red Man, who is this "we"? "We want him to prolong his contact", "we see him as an important player", "we really rate him".

Does Ole have split personality disorder? Or is he referring to other people at the club?

I'd imagine this mad attempt to get him and Pogba to sign new deals comes from the accounts fear that an "asset" will leave for nothing.

That's why Jones got a new deal while we didn't even have an official manager. That's why Mata got a new deal. It there is a pattern at the club the goes back well beyond Ole's time at the club with the club throwing contracts at players who barely play just because their contact is going to run out.

Ole is a club man, and all press conferences are more or less scripted. To me this sounds like a charm offensive to try and stop an "asset" leaving for nothing.

We know the club were prepared to sell Lingard in the summer, just no one would pay the asking price. We know the club will look to sell him in January at a cut price if he hasn't signed a new deal by then.

It's clear the club have little plan for him beyond the spreadsheet. This is simply the club scrabbling to come up with a satisfactory financial solution. Either push up his price by publicly suggesting that they want to keep him, or to tie him down to a new deal.

I'd suggest that every player who is out of contract next summer SHOULD leave. If the club have allowed your contact to run down then they probably don't value you as a player, just an asset.

Apparently a new deal for Bruno is the priority. He has over 3 years left on his deal and the are pushing to give him a new deal. That shows the club value him. If you are a few months away from being able to sign a pre-contract with another side and the club haven't been seriously negotiating a new deal for you then they don't really want you, they just don't want to lose you for free.
