As I watch Spurs move above us after being referred to as useless, I read again what Ole said yesterday. "We have had too many games where we have lost points so we need to look at the whole set up and balance of the team and maybe something has to give. "

How can the board read that and ask why after nearly 3 years the manager has to only now look at the whole set up. Yes Whole set up, whole. For goodness sake, a decent manager knows how to set up at the start, not 3 years down the road.

It's mind blowing that the board still have faith in this manager. I would ask what the senior players think reading that. The manager doubting how he has set the team up. Keep reading that and ask how he is still in the job this evening.

{Ed014's Note - he just made himself look a prize pillock when he came out with that waffle, he didn’t have a clue what to say and actually used the excuse of people shouting in the back ground to give himself time to come up with the garbage he did.

He’s winged that job from day one, he’s an utter joke.

Having said that I hope he stays! ?

Redman his days are numbered no doubt about it. His happy camp of under achievers have now been joined by players who expect more.

And Arsenal, also apparently in disarray, could move to within 1 point of us.

Everyone continues to say that Ole is too defensive. This is complete rubbish. We are playing too many attacking players and nothing in midfield. We may need to sacrifice a player from the front 4 and play another midfielder, even Donny, so we have more control in midfield.

4-3-3 with Fernandes as one of the front 3 in away games and tough derbies. Maybe fernandes can be in the middle 3 for easier games - but not sure both him and Pogba can play in there.

The imbalance in our squad is easy to see. Matic and Pogba no good against competitive midfield, look great against teams a level below. Fred and McTom solidify us in tougher games, but we lack creativity and service.

Red Man - Out of interest what do you think he means by that?! What do you think he thinks wrong with the set up if that makes sense?! What is he talking about?!

He thinks he needs 10 more defenders in the team. 10 defenders incl Fred and then degea.

DLIB

I think he heard Gary Neville saying what he did and had a moment where he realised we are wide open. Defend from the front was around when I played and been refined drastically since, yet the Norwegian muppet can’t coach it. Maybe it has hit Ole, he thought SAF just sent teams out to “play” and thought it was simple. Likely Ole realises the mish mash tactics sees teams breaking straight through us and thinks he has to do something. Problem is he doesn’t know exactly what to do or how to coach it, he has no strategy, no in depth knowledge of what it takes. If I was guessing Ole will be reading coaching books because his coaches don’t seem able, a bit like when Moyes was reading how to be a leader books.
It is not Oles philosophy otherwise he would have done it by now, I suspect he is thinking he has to survive now and that needs change. It tells us he wasn’t able to steer a course from the beginning.

Dodgy, i am amazed that you still look for excuses for the imbecile we have in charge. Never in my 55 years have i witnessed a bigger sham than this. The man is an idiot, pure and simple, scoring a few important goals does not make you special. Anybody, even Mr Bean could organize this squad better.
Please accept the end is coming, not soon enough.

Gary Neville sure speaks a good game. One only need to refer to his stint in Spain to see that everybody and his hat knows best. There are hundreds of factors for managers to consider before every game, not just dragging player names into their starting position on match day like Football Manager. But saying all that I’m not defending him. In fact appearing to cluelessly suggest that he maybe needs to look at a few things on live television is highly alarming. No rubbish Sherlock.

DB. We have no plan to or play. That is defensive. We don't coach attacking movement that is defensive.
We are submissive and don't try and impose our game on the opposition.

Red Man - His comments are as bizarre as they are troubling!

I remember when he was first appointed we were all absolutely sick and tired of Jose’s low block and defensive football.

Ole came in and talked of modern football, pressing from the front, rotation, he said a Utd team should never be outworked or out fought. He dropped Lukaku because he didn’t press, wasn’t mobile enough and didn’t fit his style. Well that was his excuse anyway!

There was evidence in his initial winning run of this type of football. Rashford, Martial and Lingard all pressed from the front. Pogba operated to left of a midfield three but was given more of a free role and allowed to move forward and support the attack. Herrera supported the press or then dropped in alongside Matic who anchored the midfield.

I can’t understand why Ole moved away from this approach?! He actually has the players to implement this style. I assumed Varane was signed to allow us to play a higher defensive line and Sancho to fill the void on the RW to provide more creativity to the attack whilst also being used in an aggressive pressing style with Rashford, Bruno and Cavani.

If Ole is guilty of anything it’s been prioritising results over performance. Of scraping through games much like a team involved in a relegation battle. If he’d implemented an aggressive pressing style like he promised I’m absolutely convinced we’d be much better for it!

{Ed0666's Note - you can’t blame OGS from abandoning the press. Styles, formations change and evolve over time. Clearly Ole feels he can win soccer games with a different strategy but clearly the players haven’t got the memo. I really don’t understand what his st you le is at the moment because I feel you're winning because of luck, moments of individual brilliance late in the game and not because of the managers tactics. Saying that I truly expect you to be pumped up for the game and bringing AK47’s to a fist fight.

How is it making excuses saying that what we are playing is not working?

Everyone keeps saying it is easy, but I actually think we have a collection of midfielders that don't work well together. But Ole has also allowed it not to be a priority to not change that. Matic, pogba, donny, fred, mctom. If you include fernandes in a 3 you blunt his effectiveness, I think he has a been an excellent number 10.

It will be a rollercoaster season with little control unless we find a combination that works. My vote is that McFred is our best 2.

Who thought in his early days Henderson was good enough at Liverpool, early on my scouse friends rated him as much as most rate Fred. But a decent coach and an organized team with a plan, and he is a top player. i'm sick of the midfield blame game, Klopp wins games with Henderson, Milner THE ox and Fabinho. A good coach makes the best of his team, The Tit we have in charge could not win games with Xavi Iniesta and Busquets, no more excuses, the man is a failure, we either get rid or accept mid table mediocrity.

Sadly he knows rubbish about tactics.

A collection of attack-minded individuals and no plan for midfield is best way to describe how we set-up. Hence the reliance on McFred as they are played as two more defensive minded players who can let others play with more freedom. Bruno playing more as a forward more often than not.

Problem is neither McTominay or Fred are defensive midfielders!

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the solution is within that squad though. Fred isn't good enough - his ball retention is woeful. McTominay should be playing hs natural game as a box to box midfielder. Matic is past it. Pogba - the great enigma that he is, just ain't good enough either due to his inconsistency - and let's face it why build a team with him when so obvious he is leaving.

There are two much-maligned players in the squad who if given a chance in the right roles could change things massively.

We seem to open when adopting 433 but we have done it with the wrong players. i'd play Lindelof (yes that one) as a DM with 2 box to box midfielders aside him in McTominay and Van De Beek.

Bruno plays behind a front 2 of Rashford and Ronaldo. With the options of Sancho, Greenwood, Cavani from the bench.

We have Fred, Matic and Pogba who I'd be quite happy not to see in a United shirt again.

Maybe from all of this though the ultimate ask if do we change several players in the team or just one man managing it all and I think the answer is now clear on that one!

Whiskey you don't always need to be a bodybuilder to be a DM. doesn't neves do it? Carrick was one. Lindelof has a good reading of the game and a good passing range as well.
