Ex players saying ole deserves the season and the club won't take a knee jerk decision. Firstly we aren't a charity, nobody deserves anything at a club the size of united. You either perform or your gone. Secondly is it really knee jerk to sack him seeing as he's 3 years in, has no tactics, still no clear style, can't get the best out of the players and he hasn't won jack. If we were doing well and playing well and then lost 2/ 3 in a row, that's knee jerk. I hate how certain people frame our current situation in a way that protects ole just because he's their mate. If those was Jose or LVG those same voices would be calling for his head.

Tim neville was at it before.
I would even give him
Sympathy if he and the clueless coaches actually tried something different.
Remember Conte with Chelsea, they were shocking, then he changed to a back three after 5 matches and they won the league. That's an intelligent manager, while solskjaer keeps doing the same things and expects different results. That shows he's not management material.
I posted yesterday that going three at the back and playing lindleof at DM would give us more solidity and makes it more difficult for teams to go through our soft centre. He can then accommodate the players up front without worrying too much if we lose possession further up the field. The two fullbacks can be tge wide men when attacking, and tuck in to pack the midfield when we're out of possession.
It is a simple formation and Pep uses it at times.
Will solskjaer even think to change? Doubt it.

Have we ever played 3 at the back? can’t remember.

To paraphrase Einstein, 'The definition of Oleball is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. '

There are so many options and so many opportunity's to switch things up. Particularly when what we are doing is not working.
3 4 3
352
Old school 442
442 diamond
433 as or 4231 he does but with different intent.
Many more.
But ole is trying to squeeze players into a team and formation that doesn't suit them.
He destroyed rash last year shunting him to the right or out of the team.
Bruno is playing as a free 10 usually and moving him to an 8 may lower his stats but might prove to be for the greater good. Who knows.
442 with cavani and ronaldo up top looks good to me.
Pick a team to be a team not to accomodate certain players. 8 or 9 of your first 11 play every week so the 2 or 3 are coming into a well oiled familiar well coached well drilled machine. Whomever comes in knows their job. That's what all the best teams do. Nice amount of rotation keeping all pretty happy but 8 or 9 of your first team play every week.
Our fella is all over the place. If one guy is missing the whole style is altered. Often resulting in several positional changes.
Our machine has all the parts to make a really good side but our lad is still on page 1 of the instruction manual and is further than ever from giving us a well oiled machine.

Tim, Ken, I'm not sure we tried 3 at the back. But England play it at times and we have the personnel as we're not short of CBs. Also, maguire and Shaw are part of that system for England.
In addition I think Lindleof can prove a better DM than Fred, or Matic. He is mobile, strong, and can pass.
For me, 352 will give us more protection out of possession as we can flood the midfield area, and this is their problem we have at present. Maguire Verane and Bailly will make quite a decent back 3.
I just think this is a natural way for us to play.

352 def ain't the answer. For that ideally we need to wingbacks who can bomb on and defend too. Shaw yes, but for the right hand side I see nobody. AWB is poor offensively and Dalot defensively is suspect.

Then you have the question of who plays in the back 3 with Maguire and Varane. Bailly is again suspect at the best of times and Lindelof doesn't exactly fill with confidence either.

Okay so to the midfield. Do you go for a mid 2 with a no 10 or a DM with two 8/ 10's ahead of them? I presume you meant the latter seen as the new flavour of the week I keep seeing on here is Lindelof now being our best DM. After having never played there for us.

Okay so your attacking 2. Presumably CR7 and Cavani?
Doesn't make sense to me to be playing only 2 attackers when we have CR7, Cavani, Rashford, Greenwood, Sancho, Lingard, Martial all wanting to play.

In no way do I think 3 at the back will work for us, we simply do not have the personnel nor do I think it will benefit us.

I actually think under Ole we have had some really good results with 3 at the back but as mentioned above we do not have the wing backs good enough to play this system. We also have about 6 forwards and would only be able to play 2 of them whilst packing the midfield with average players and having our best players on the bench, so I don't think it works anymore.

The squad is totally unbalanced, we have Greenwood Rashford, Sancho, Ronaldo, Cavani and Martial who we are already struggling to fit into 3 positions, I don't think you could play any of them as wing backs so losing an extra forward thinking player to play an extra defender makes us more solid but would be even worse to watch in my opinion.

The fact even Ronaldo looks bang average in this team says it all about the set up unfortunately. We made 3 signings and continue to play the exact same way that all the other teams worked out how to play against last season, it's a shambles.
