For what it's worth my thoughts on the current situation.

I think this bad run of form has taken them completely by surprise and they have absolutely no contingency plan.

There are no obvious candidates available with the exception of Zidane. Rumours suggest he doesn't want the job.

We all know Utd's chief negotiator Matt Judge hasn't demonstrated much competence and has the ability to drag out transfer negotiations at an excruciatingly slow pace. Do we have the competence and appetite to get a manager out of another Club mid season and the willingness to pay the compensation in addition to Ole's severance pay?!

It's looks likely that we'll stick will Ole until he loses enough games that his position becomes completely untenable (if it isn't already) it will force them to act or we'll limp to the end of the season whilst we remain in contention for top 4. If we finish outside the top 4 he'll be sacked but has anyone even considered what they'll do if we finish 4th?! Now that's a scary thought!

That's it exactly DLIB, they have no plan and therefore are committed to not doing anything about it.

I'd imagine questions must be asked of Murtough too, a man brought in to oversee the footballing decisions.

The most important footballing decision of all, one would have thought, would be to ensure that we have a good manager and coaching team at the helm and the club seems to be dithering. Well Mr. director of football, show us why you were elevated to this position.

It's all extremely frustrating to watch unfold. It's going to be a long and painful season if the club are to persist with Ole and his band of merry men.

I think the club thought they hit the jackpot with Ole, a yes man who could do enough to keep the coffers ticking over and his pundit buddies would hold back the criticism.

They jumped at the chance to give him the permanent job on the back of a few good performances and jumped at the chance to give an extension with the second place finish. They had someone in charge who had ‘United dna’ and would never say a bad word about the club in public.

The problem is that he is a poor manager with an inexperienced coaching team. If we hadn’t signed Fernandes, he’d probably have been sacked long ago. His entire tactical approach can be summed up as hold shape and hope the attacking lads do something. It’s no surprise that other clubs are pulling further and further ahead despite the money spent during his tenure.

Now the club don’t have any plan or want to sack a manager they have just rewarded with a massive new contract. They’ll cross their fingers and hope for CL qualification and sack him in the summer if we finish outside the top 4. The only reason the sacked Jose during the season was because he was criticising the club.

If ole gets top 4 I believe they will see that as enough and he will stay.

{Ed025's Note - if he gets top 4 i will show my arse in john colliers window jonny.. :)

Call me arrogant, naive even stupid but I still think Manchester United has the gravitas to attract the vast majority or managers not just in Europe but the World.

I certainly think we could get the likes of Rodgers or even Ten Hag if were aggressive and decisive enough. We play big transfers for players why not managers?! I think with the quality of players in our squad it would be a hard job to turn down for most managers (with the obvious exceptions of course) . The opportunity to manage such a big club may never come again and I would have thought most would have to give it serious consideration at the very least!

I agree re Murtough surely he was appointed to advise the decision makers on such matters. Is it not his job to define the philosophy and blue print for success?! Throughout this period we’ve heard absolutely nothing from our director of football!

It shouldn’t be too hard to replace Ole because he doesn’t have a defined style of play, he doesn’t play modern, exciting, attacking football, he doesn’t promote youth and he doesn’t win trophies.

{Ed014's Note - basically DLIB you’re looking at what you might term as leftover managers. The elite managers are already else where.

So no it shouldn’t be difficult at all.

I think Ten Hag would be a very bold and good move for the club but we have complete and utter novices making the decisions and I fear going the route of Southgate is the likely outcome, should they stick with Ole for the foreseeable.

Ed014 - I agree with that. We’re looking for someone that’s done well at a smaller club (no disrespect) and hopefully ready to take the next step. I’m not suggesting we could get the likes of Pep, Klopp, Nagelsmann or Tuchel etc.

I think we could get Potter if we really wanted him and god forbid even Gareth Southgate.

Rodgers, Ten Hag, Potter, Southgate if we were prepared to pay the necessary compensation surely one of them would want the job! I even think we could get Potch, by all accounts things are not great in Paris and if we paid them the required compensation maybe they could approach Zidane. Ok maybe fantasy football but not impossible.

I accept I don’t really understand the intricacies of such deals but managers do swap clubs mid season!

Ps - I’m not advocating we go anywhere near Southgate!

I agree with that Danny!

{Ed014's Note - I think that has to be the way ahead and we’ve just teased ed04 about Southgate but god forbid he gets the job. I wouldn’t even wish him on you! ?

Any of the others would be a good fit, for me more so Ten Haag or Potter, not convinced about Rogers, simply due to Liverpool missing out on the title followed by Leicester missing top 4 when he was in the driving seat on both occasions.

Maybe the same reasons for not getting Pochettino after failing to cross the line at Spurs. Saying that if Levy had maybe backed him with purchases the season after the loss in the final who knows, he might have taken the next step.

Zidane I don’t know why but not sure he would be successful over here, but that’s just an opinion.

Potter for already knowing the Premier League would be the one for me and surprised Newcastle didn’t try and tempt him away rather than go for the hapless Howe.

If you’re right in your assertion that results have taken the board by surprise then they really are dumber than I thought. We’ve been terrible all season and were incredibly lucky to scrape results in many of our earlier games. A blind man could see that a real team would tear us apart and our luck against the other mid table sides was always going to run out eventually. Nobody should be surprised by our poor results and performances, but the fact that we’re only a few points off top four in spite of them is a bit of a shock. The board should be counting their blessings for this and replacing the clueless one with somebody who knows what they’re doing before it’s too late. Sadly, their lack of ambition will likely prevent that from happening.
