If anything was proven on Saturday it was that Donny isn't a bad player at all. Hopefully he'll get to start a bit more now.
Just need to lure Frenkie de Jong from cash' strapped Barcelona and that would make a nice pairing.

It’s ironic that Donny came on and nearly saved Ole’s job, only for his captain to make sure he got the sack.

Also, when Donny plays, we lose ????.

Well Fred wasn’t on the pitch … coincidence, I think not.

In terms of intelligence and technical quality Donny is by far and away our best midfielder.

Last season his weakness in the EPL was that he was too easily dispossessed, and the speed of the game was much quicker than he was used to. Transitions between attack and defence in the EPL are much quicker. If you lose the ball the opposition will immediately start an attack, likewise if you win the ball the opposition will immediately drop back into their defensive shape. You don't get time between transition to just hold the ball or your position, look up and decided what is best.

I think by the end of the season he had got used to that a bit more, while over the summer he worked on his physical conditioning to make him stronger and more able to hold his ground and not be robbed of the ball.

Now he just needs to play, ideally with a strong top class CDM alongside.

A midfield of Rice and Donny with Bruno at No.10 looks top class. Or a midfield diamond with Rice at the base, Bruno at the tip and Donny and McTominay either side looks excellent.

Hopefully Donny can be one of the big winners from Ole's sacking.

I hope at least he gets a decent run now, it would be a shame to see him leave the club without ever having got a chance which is what would have happened if Solskjaer had still been in charge come January.

why can vdb and bruno play as the 2 cms?

why do we have to play a CDM all the time.

I'd be more worried about Harry. he is a liability. You just can't play a high line with him. How he is captain is beyond me.
I'd be replacing him as fast as it can get done.

Bolger,

Have you watched us recently?

Shappy, my mate the lifelong WHU fan who puts Rice in his top ten all time Hammers players was telling me at the weekend he had not seen Rice so totally outplayed, out thought and dominated in the last 12 months as he was on Saturday against Ruben Neves at Wolves. Just one game of course but apparently Neves was head and shoulders above anyone else -his passing from deep was something special apparently.

I don't know a lot about Neves but a Spurs mate is saying if Conte can raise 60 mill he wants him to spend it on Neves and Kessie (coming to end of contract) that's his Spurs midfield dream team. Kessie winning the ball and giving it to Neves to work his magic.

Bolger, neither Fred nor McTominey are real DMs though, so that argument doesn't hold water.

Fred is a headless chicken masquerading as a ball-winning CM, and McTominey is a hard working box -to-box midfielder.

I reckon McTominey could do a passable job as a DM with the right instruction, but it isn't his natural role.

@BFBW, Why not Rice AND Neves? Send Fred of to the poultry farm where he belongs, and let Pogba go. Gives us Rice, Neves, DVB and McTominey to choose from for 2 spots. Neves and DVB for maximum creativity, Rice and McTominey for physical domination, or mix and match as needed. Would be a dangerous midfield.
