Absolutely baffled that the club haven't looked to address our midfield this window, yes January is difficult but if you're determined enough there's deals to be done, especially when it could make or break our season.

Our midfield has been awful for years, ralf talks about control but with our options that's never happening. When we are losing they aren't agressive or energetic enough to win the ball and wrestle the game away, when we are winning they aren't composed enough or technically astute enough to keep the ball and see out the game.

We've been blessed through the years with great players in there, mcclair, robson, Keane, scholes, carrick etc but honestly looking at matic/ Fred/ mctominay I can't say what they're good at. Can anyone on here can name a premier league midfield duo they wouldn't have over ours? I'll wait ??

Seems looking in that the club have already written this season off and are planning for next, while that's annoying I wouldn't mind so much if I trusted that they will make the right choices. Sadly I don't, hopefully when ralf moves upstairs he can help, but as it stands we are a rudderless boat sailing to nowhere.

Agreed. Everton are awful, yet I’d still have Allan/ Doucoure; Villa are average, yet I’d still have Luiz/ McGinn. Other central midfielders in bottom half teams that would improve us include Ward-Prowse, Phillips…

Surely just sell Lingard and Martial now for £25m ish and reinvest that in Zakaria/ Kessie/ Kamara right now?

I’mm sure they are looking into it but like most bigger deals they won’t happen until the last day when the transfer games of cat and mouse come to a head. Although where there are release clauses in place it makes you wonder. Guess we need to sell or move someone on for everyone who comes in.

Imagine being a decision maker at utd and thinking that it would be good idea not to buy a midfielder this window. Matic can only play half the games, max. So we are absolutely short in that area. Forget what you think of fred, mctom and Matic. We are short of a midfielder and have too many 10s.

Sort it out and sanction a purchase.

Matic towards the end couldn't keep up with the pace.
Fred was fred.
Why can't the decision makers bother to address the midfield is beyond me.

And for any Donny fans, I imagine he might play better with a fit and youthful dm behind him who could actually find him with passes.
