Luke Shaw open to signing a new deal, one position we don’t need to replace?

Probably wants to sign his monster contract before the new manager comes and ships him out!

I don't think we should be giving out new contracts to any players before the new manager joins and can give his input.

We gave Jones a new deal before Ole was given the job full time and he's played maybe 200 minutes in three years of that contract.

All contract talks should be on hold until the new manager says whether that player has a future under him at the club. That's just common sense.

{Ed002's Note - Contracts are nothing to do with the manager. The manager has an input to player sales and recruitment but it is largely in the hands of others.}

I'd sell him. He is a poor lb. H email good going forward, but defensively clueless.

Ed002, I'm not suggesting the manager should have anything to do with the contracts themselves.

However, it's a clear mistake for the club to give a long term contract to a player the manager doesn't feel will be of much use.

As a club we struggle to sell players because they are often on large long term contracts.

If a players contract runs until June 2023 then we have time to hire the new manager and for them to say to the club whether a particular player will have a long term role in his team or not.

No point giving out contracts to players the next manager will only play a few times a season.

{Ed002's Note - That is not really how it works Shappy.}

Liverpool get by with one of the worst defensive fullbacks in TAA because he’s great offensively and they actually have a good set up. I don’t think I’d be so quick to been good attacking fullbacks who are up to the physicality of the PL.

Yes Shaw and Telles will have to stay mainly because there are so many areas of higher priority than left back for the club to deal with.

Also if Pochettino were to come in, I assume they would work well together given their previous time together at Southampton.

The club would be better off focusing on improving areas where all hope is lost in terms of the current personnel like central midfield (MCFRED), right back (AWB), our captain centre back (Fridge) and up top.
