It does appear that we are playing for nothing now this season. Before yesterday's draw there was an outside chance. But frankly we are running out of games to get the required points while also still requiring Arsenal AND Spurs to drop multiple points. If Arsenal win their two games in hand then we are 9 points off of top four with 8 games to play.

Meaning Arsenal need to drop 10 points from a possible 24, Spurs need to drop 7 points and we need to win every single game.

It's over, top four while not mathematically gone, is nothing but a pipe dream now.

As such I find myself struggling for motivation to watch our remaining games. I certainly won't be going out of my way to watch them.

We have a bunch of players who can't or won't play for pride. Most want to leave and have been ringing it in all season, that won't change now. The manager has no authority as he won't be the manager long term and in truth for those that will certainly leave this summer there are absolutely no consequences for them.

We won't see better performances, we won't see kids getting a chance, we won't see a new style starting to take shape, we won't even see players giving close to 80% let alone 100%.

It's a sad end to the season, that is for sure. Personally I'd love it if fans boycotted the final home games as a mark of dissatisfaction that we won't put up with anything less than challenging for titles, you want our money then give us what we want. Why should we pay for a substandard product.

Yesterday's game was a rubbishshow in truth, the only interesting thing I noticed during the whole game was that Rangnick has switched his CB's with Maguire moving to the RCB and Varane playing at LCB. While Dalot played deeper obviously to give Maguire more cover and to try and rebuild his confidence. It's clear that the club is working hard to help it's captain recover his form rather than throwing him on the scrap heap.

I agree Shappy. The players aren't playing for the badge. They have given up on the manager and the club. They know RR is a temp so they just want to see out the season now. You won't see much passion on the pitch anymore.

United addict
I’ve never seen any passion from these absolute fraudsters masquerading as professional footballers
I’d love to get my hands on some of these clowns
There an utter disgrace to the badge.

I don’t think it’s a question of can’t play won’t play, or pride or playing for the badge. I think that many of the players are simply not good enough. They have neither the ability nor the character to play for Manchester United. They have an inflated opinion of their abilities. What I don’t understand is why the club awarded a new bumper contract to Fernandes who just does his own thing and kicks the ball here, there and everywhere. Great player according to Roy Keane. Baffling. New deals to be awarded to Shaw and Rashford? All this before a manager has been appointed. McTominay? In the immortal words of George Best: ‘He can trap the ball further than I can kick it. ’.

Best example of all this is Pogba is quoted as saying the season is over in the week - then starts the next match - when we are fighting for 4th. What is happening here? The response should have been yes Paul your season and Utd career is over now off you go. The level of ineptitude is truly quite staggering from every single employee of this club.

I don't really agree that they've just given up. They know they are playing for their futures and potentially being dropped/ moved on to places they will earn a helluva lot less. They know millions of people are watching live every week. You can see them trying. It's more scary than just giving up - they are just crap full-stop. The midfield, fullbacks, half the centrebacks and pretty much all our strikers are barely mid-table players at best.

One example I find intolerable is when the final pass gets blocked, our strikers stand there, stewing in their disappointment, rather than press from behind, while the opposing CDM has time to take touch after touch before picking his next pass.

Cavani is the only attacking player not guilty of this. It is infuriating to watch week after week.

{Ed014's Note - I watched Sancho do it yesterday, like it was above him to try and recover the ball.

I think the players are suffering from several things

Firstly having had several managers in the last few years who have not been good enough and there has been no consistent pattern of play

Secondly too many of the players know there is no real competition for their places and are not good enough to wear the shirt

Thirdly they are so divorced from real life that they are comfortable sitting on the bench drawing massive wages

Fourth is that as a group there doesn't appear to be one real leader amongst them

Fifth most know that because they are on huge wages with long term contracts it is unlikely other clubs can afford to buy them and match the wages they are on

Lastly and I think very much an underrated factor is lack of confidence. It permeates nearly the whole team. They look shot mentally playing for Utd. Compare how well fir example Bruno played recently for Portugal with his club form. Likewise Maguire.

One of the most important things the new manager will have to do is get the players to work hard for each and to follow his orders. Once there is a real team spirit with players prepared to really fight then results will pick up.
