Rangnick in his press conference stating he wanted a striker in January and also suggested Vlahovic, Alvarez and Luiz Dias to the club.
However the club was against his suggestion.

Appalling but not surprising really. The club is a mess, it’s main goal looks to be financial not success on the pitch. Ideally we would find out exactly why the club refused a striker when it was an obvious issue. I bet we don’t find out though or they give a fudged answer. It wouldn’t surprise me if it was a financial decision. We really need a change of ownership.

I imagine that the unresolved Greenwood issue would also have been a factor.

It's bizarre that even knowing Cavani was out for 8 out of 10 games, and that Greenwood was likely to be out indefinitely, the club still allowed Martial to leave even on loan. I imagine they didn't want to sign another high profile player who might not be what the new manager (unknown at the time) wants. Understandable given the Sanchez and Pogba situations. But who knows where we'd be now if we had any of those mooted players now, maybe we'd be talking CL instead of the delights of thursday evening Europa football.

Understandable?! Who actually signs the players at Manchester United?! It’s clearly an excuse peddled by the Club for not investing in the team.
They wrote the season off in November. They appointed an interim manager to clear up Ole’s mess and gave him absolutely no help. They even forced him to keep players he was happy to let go. Perpetuating the toxic culture at the Club and losing money in the process. The inmates are definitely running the asylum. Good luck EtH trying to get any sense out of this lot. Logic disappeared from the corridors of Old Trafford a long time ago.
