Well we are now approaching silly season as the actual football finishes and the transfer market opens, while clubs like city and Liverpool only need minor tweaks ( city about to sign Haaland) we need a massive overhaul. As a fan I'm going to have to temper my expectations and be realistic, we need a completely new squad which won't happen in one window it will take 3/ 4. With that in mind I see rumours that united will look to the free agent market as the budget will be smaller. I have no issues with that however the names being mentioned I. e. dybala and dembele I wouldn't go near. We've been down this road before signing players on huge wages who don't have the heart for the fight and look where it's got us. If we really don't have a sizeable budget then trim the squad with losing the out of contract players and a few sales then promote from the youth. Give ETH A base to work from and players who will take in his instructions and be eager to learn. Improve our scouting and sign younger players from within uk or abroad that won't cost a fortune then let the coaches improve them. Honestly I'd be happier with a hungry hard working talented group of no name kids who given their all than a collection of pay cheque seeking mercenaries who are big names and sell shirts.

Let's see what approach we take this summer as it will shape us moving forward under the new manager.

Players with high potential doing well at a young age are going to be in demand by all the top clubs. It's going to be a hard sell to them to come here at the moment, which is entirely the clubs fault. Recruitment is going to make or break us over the next few seasons, the squads needs a lot of work.

The challenge I see for EtH is managing expectations and getting time to rebuild the squad in his image. Can the club afford to be out the top 4 for a couple of seasons to facilitate the change? If they can and they are realistic about the job in hand and give the manager the support he needs then I'm sure EtH will be successful. If however there are KPI's to be in the top 4 etc, then the manager won't have the freedom to rebuild and will be on a hiding to nothing.

One thing I'm interested to follow is the commercial side of the club. We have insanely high wage bills, borrowing and operational costs which at the moment are more than serviceable. Can the club afford the manager time and freedom? Klopp had the Suarez and Courtinho cash plus whatever else to finance his transition, we'll presumably do it by a mix of sales, cash in hand and mainly debt. This puts pressure on the club to compete near the top to drive revenue. A bit of a catch 22 really.

I am okay with a multi tactic window that covers some free agents as well as some that come with mid/ low range transfer values. Reality is we will hopefully improve and challenge for top 4 whilst not having champions league next year so we need to be realistic with who we can get. Just as an example you could get:
Boubacar Kamara is a special-ist HM who is young and could be moulded by EtH to be the type of player that he wants in this role and would not expect huge salary. Christian Eriksen would be one for the next couple of years that would give us an AM who is showing he still has it in the PL whilst not stunting the growth of any attacking midfielders we have coming through the youth. Even if he was here for 1 year it would be worth it and may allow for Bruno to be rested or replaced if his form continues as he is. Wages would be higher for him but when you consider the wages of players leaving we would be okay and has not touched the budget which allows for Striker/ Centre Back/ Full Back.

I’d be happy if we got a striker, Midfielder and centre half in this window. Isak or Jonathan David, Tielemens or Neves, Gvardiol or Pau Torres.
If there are free’s available ie Kamara then add them and bring a few youngsters into the fold.

Realistically, we not going to be challenging for at least 2-3 windows with this current mob. He needs time to add gradually.

I would love to avoid the big names and hope RR is worth his salt and has a network of players he has his eye on.

However, every agent knows we are an easy touch and we have to persuade a player to spend 1-2 seasons in the europa conference/ europa league . we will pay a premium for that.
