What's everyone's opinion on Frenkie De Jong then? It's clearly not a done deal but by all accounts it looks to be edging closer.

Personally I think he is a fantastic player who is fairly unique in his style of play and i'd be over the moon if we sign him. It is rare to see a player in his position who is not only excellent at retaining possession but also seems to actually want to be pressed by the opposition while doing it. He carries the ball very well, is a great passer and with someone like Sancho in the side who likes quick one two's and exchanges of possession, I think he fits well. His signing would also hopefully see a big decline in the amount of time Maguire has the ball at his feet which is a win for everyone except the opposition. It's a long time since we have had a gifted technical player in the middle of the park, I don't think we've had one since Carrick left.

This is not to say that I think the move is guaranteed to work out perfectly. The speed of the game in the Premier League is faster than La Liga and when pressed, it is not just one or maybe two players who do it. Next season, I can see De Jong being generally good but having a few moments where he is caught out as he hasn't quite adjusted to the speed of the league. However, in the seasons after I hope he will be seen as one of the best players in the league in a similar way to how Thiago took a season to get used to things at Liverpool (granted he had a couple of injuries) and then stood out.

I think he would be a great addition, schooled in the EtH methods, great skill and ball playing ability with a good work ethic.
He will need others to make that work which is why I think we are also looking at a Neves who will act more as the HM.
FdJ would be great in transitioning the play and getting the best out of our forward 3/ 4.
We will have to accept that the style of play that EtH will play and FdJ likes that we may get exposed at times. But it will hopefully be successful.

Would easily become our best CM since Carrick, who was easily our best CM since Scholes, who was easily our best CM since Robson.

FDJ reminds me a lot of Carrick when he plays in the no.6 role for Holland, but with a little more ball carrying ability to compliment his outstanding distribution.

I still think we need an action-packed destroyer to play alongside him, though.

Frenkie/ Garner
NEW/ Fred
Bruno/ vdBeek

Should be the first choice and rotational options for this coming season, IMO.

Fairly certain that city are going to swoop in and match our bid when we finally agree a fee, so I don’t think it’s worth discussing. It’s a shame, as I can see it all dragging on for just long enough for Liverpool to wrap up the Darwin deal and is ending up with neither despite being in poll position to sign Darwin just a few weeks back.

In PL these days you need that ball winning midfielder more than ever -FDJ may be a good addition but would need a Bissouma-Ndidi type player alongside him.

He sure is angel. I always wanted veratti to be our no6. Fdj would be my no1 choice nowadays.

@Brad76 Scholes to me is the greatest midfielder that have played for Man Utd.

RJ I think de Jong is an OK player but not a great player. He's failed at Barcelona and that's the truth. He gets caught in possession a lot. I'm not sure what his role will be, but agree that he'll need a good DM alongside him. Rice will be ideal, but that won't happen. But if anyone can get the best from de Jong and DVB, it is Ten Hag.
So it'll be interesting how our midfield shapes up.

Messi as failed at PSG don’t make him a bad player!
