Luke Shaw will be going into his 8th season as a United player, do people still think he has what it takes to make the left back position his own.
Personally, I think he is a good player, maybe not as good as we all expected him to be. He has had 1 season where he probably looked like the best left back in the league and just when he was expected to kick on from there, he goes missing. Maybe it's time he steps up in terms of his fitness ( he is a baby 'Anderson') or he is shown the exit door.
I do hope Alex Telles and Brandon Williams are both allowed to leave and ETH gives Alvaro Fernandez game time this season as I think he has a really bright future.

{Ed004's Note - He really needs to find his form that he had leading up to the Euros or else be moved on. He responded well to the challenge Telles originally raised for his position but Telles has really regressed. Potentially we need better competition but the concern is that there are other areas of the squad that need attention more so than left back}

Considering its his 8th season and were still asking the same questions about him.

I would hazard a guess at no

But were not going to sign a whole new XI and we have more pressing concerns so we will have to make do with him and telles plus fernandez if he can develop.

{Ed004's Note - I was hoping we would show more interest in Malacia with Telles moving on but he looks likely to head elsewhere.}

I agree DSG a bit like pogba after 6 years still wondering will he live up to the hype.
Shaw has fallen a long way short if expectation since he arrived.
But like all the players we have to hope eth will have a positive effect.

Shaw will get a chance this season under EtH.

He has had a few times in his career with us where he threatened to kick on. He had a great start in his second season under LvG until he broke his leg.

His recovery and rehab basically kept him out for the best part of 18 months.

By the time he was back and playing regularly LvG was sacked and Jose took over. Jose never liked Shaw. Maybe he wasn't happy that Shaw joined United when Jose and Chelsea were interested in him. Maybe he didn't feel Shaw worked hard enough in training. Either way at times the relationship between the two seemed to boarder on bullying.

Ole came and Shaw's form saw a mini revival, especially after Telles joined and challenged him for his spot.

Telles sadly has never looked like getting to grips with the EPL. Is he any better than Alex Buttner?

Shaw on the other hand saw his form regress again last season. Whether it was a symptom of the lethargy around the club or whether he didn't feel challenged and under threat for his position who knows.

What we do know is that after 7 season's we are still asking the question of whether he will make it.

I think the answer is almost certainly not.

There are many excuses and only a few glimpses of the talent the showed early on in his career.

Whether it's the injury, moving away from his family at such a young age, or a lack of intelligence and/ or a lack of a hard working professional mentality.

For one reason or another there is always an excuse/ reason for Shaw not to reach his potential.

The reality seems to be he is a talented player, but is totally incapable of maintaining his form consistently.

I suspect long term he will need replacing for EtH to be successful, yet the beauty of a new manager is that Luke Shaw will be given yet another chance. However, this one really does feel like he's in the last chance saloon.

Ed04 - we may have just put our hat in the ring for Malacia - let’s wait and see.

{Ed004's Note - Looks like I may have spoken too soon. He should offer decent competition to Shaw.}

Surely a move for Telles and Williams/ AWB have been agreed, if Malacia is indeed signing?

ED004,

It feels like it will be a long summer.

{Ed004's Note - Looks like that Mad Hatter. I’d say it’ll be a very busy window with a lot of sides looking to improve}

Shaw had one too season when their were no crowds, no one holding him to account for being a lazy bugger, bursting forward once in a blue moon albeit very well . Frustrating thing is he can do it but mentally he chose not to!

Soon as fans are back he buckled and goes back to being the Luke Shaw we all see regularly passing backwards and sideways and making zero effort to run forward or backwards!

As Jose said he had to talk him through games

The fact he needs competition for his spot to motivate him is a worrying factor for me. The fact he plays for Manchester United and is paid millions should be more than enough motivation.

ED004,

For us it is about making the correct signings. For along time, we've made some shocking signings.

Personally I'm not sure how EtH can get anything out of Maguire. He needs two top holding midfielders to help him out, like England do.

I was hoping those Barcelona rumours were true hahah. I don't think they ar even that stupid or desperate to sign him.

{Ed004's Note - I do expect Maguires performances to improve in this coming season but he certainly is not a world class centre back. I’m hoping the intention is to pair Varane with Torres but the links have gone very quiet there}
